Biography: Kenneth Brown, MD, FACS, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained surgeon with Richmond Surgical Associates in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Brown earned his medical degree at University of Virginia Medical School in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he also enjoyed a one-year research fellowship. He then went on to complete his residency training in general surgery and fellowship training in transplant surgery at the Medical College of Virginia, now VCU Health, where he served as chief resident. He also received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Bachelor of Science in Biology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.Dr. Brown is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and is affiliated with Henrico Doctors' Hospital and the Virginia Transplant Center. He has more than three decades of medical expertise specializing in general surgery, transplant surgery, and vascular surgery. He utilizes a wide breadth of practice helping his patients with both simple and complex problems and those in between. He enjoys problem solving and practices patient-focused solutions employing the best platforms including advanced laparoscopic techniques and the da Vinci robot. Biography: Gretchen Aquilina, DO, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained bariatric and gastrointestinal surgeon with Advanced Surgical Partners of Virginia in Richmond. Dr. Aquilina completed her undergraduate degree at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed her five-year surgical residency training at Rowan University School of Medicine in New Jersey. Following her residency, Dr. Aquilina completed her fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University. After her fellowship, she stayed at VCU as an Assistant Professor of Surgery. Also while at VCU, she was the Surgery Clerkship Director and was awarded the Medical Student Teaching Award for three consecutive years.Dr. Aquilina takes a personal interest to engage with her patients and offers an individualized approach to surgical weight loss management using state-of-the-art techniques, as well as expertise in diagnosing and treating many other general surgery issues. Dr. Aquilina also is a recipient of several Top Docs in Bariatric Surgery awards from Richmond Magazine, as well as being named Best Bedside Manner "Bariatrics by Our Health Magazine"Greater Richmond.When not seeing patients, Dr. Aquilina enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons and enjoying all that Richmond has to offer.
