Biography: James Berry, DO is a board-certified neurosurgeon (AOBS BC/ABNS BE) with Rio Grande Valley Brain and Spine in Brownsville, Texas. In addition, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. Dr. Berry went to medical school at Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, before completing his Traditional Osteopathic Rotating Internship at Saint John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York. Dr. Berry then completed an ACGME Neurological Surgery Residency at Riverside University Health System in Moreno Valley, California, before rounding out his formal education with a fellowship in Peripheral Nerve & Spine Surgery at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. He is currently the only neurosurgeon in the Rio Grande Valley and the whole of South Texas who has postgraduate fellowship subspecialty training in advanced peripheral nerve surgery, including complex surgery on the Brachial Plexus in addition to other peripheral nerves for tumor resection, and nerve transfers including treating patients with spinal cord injury, nerve repairs, and nerve decompressions. Dr. Berry offers minimally invasive spine techniques and more traditional standard open spinal surgery depending on the individual patient's pathology. Dr. Berry belongs to the American Society of Peripheral Nerve, the American Osteopathic College of Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
