Care Philosophy: Basem Nady Azab, MD, is the director of surgical oncology at Staten Island University Hospitals Florina Cancer Center at Northwell, one of the largest cancer programs in the New York metropolitan area. It offers state-of-the-art therapies for patients with advanced abdominal cancer, pairing the latest treatments and surgical techniqueslike vascular reconstruction with Whipple surgeryto deliver the best results. Compassion and accessibility are also important to Dr. Azab. Most of my patients have my personal cell phone number, he says. Theyre very much involved in the treatment discussion, and we work together to find the best path forward. As assistant professor at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, Dr. Azab trains the next generation of surgical oncologists. His work has been featured in nearly 5 publications, he has spoken at several international and national oncology meetings, and hes a member of numerous professional societies, including the American College of Surgeons. Outside of his professional duties, Dr. Azab is a master chess player. It's a game of strategy, much like the job of a surgeon, he explains. You must avoid decision fatigue and be on your toes, which is critical in the operating room. Biography: Nicole D. Goulet is a Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon. Dr. Goulet earned her undergraduate degree from Smith College. She completed her medical educationand residency at University of Connecticut. She then went on to complete her Trauma and Critical Care Fellowship and her first year in practice at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ before she began working at NYU Langone in 2018. She served as the Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit in Brooklyn, NY for the past three years.Dr. Goulet is one of the founders of the Association of Out Surgeons and Allies (AOSA) and was the Founding President. She is also a member of several trauma organizations including the American Association for the Surgeryof Trauma (AAST) and Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) as well as the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) where she serves on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committees. She has published several articles on diversity and equity in surgery which is her primary research focus.

Biography: Amit R.T. Joshi, MD, FACS serves as the residency Program Director and Vice-Chair for Academic Affairs for the Department of Surgery at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia. He received his MD (with academic distinction) from Brown University in 2001, and completed his surgical residency at New York Presbyterian/Cornell and fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at North Shore/Long Island Jewish Hospitals. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. His principal research interests are issues in surgical training including resident recruitment and curricular development. He has authored over 50 scientific manuscripts and presentations. He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Jefferson Medical College. He is Vice Chair of the SCORE Advisory Council. He is on the Board of Directors of the APDS, having served as chair of the Independent Academic Medical Center Committee and member of the Program Committee. He is President-elect of the Philadelphia chapter of the American College of Surgeons and has been nominated as a national Governor. He is also a member of the AAMC's ERAS Advisory Council.
