Dr. Cowan is a native of Hillsboro, Texas and completed his undergraduate work in biology at The University of Texas in 1987. He earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. His residency in obstetrics and gynecology was completed at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in 1995, where he was chief resident. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a member of the Texas Medical Association and serves on the executive board of both the Travis County Medical Society and the Blood and Tissue Center in Austin. He is also an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
