Biography: Dr. Taylor L. Gist is a board certified neurosurgeon licensed in the state of Texas. He is a native Texan who was born in Irving and raised in Southlake, a suburb of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro-plex.Dr. Gist attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas on an academic scholarship where he was selected into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He then completed his medical school training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he was selected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society.Dr. Gist completed neurosurgery residency at Houston Methodist Hospital where he was trained extensively over seven years in complex brain and spine operations. This training was done in part by the neurosurgeons comprising the Neurosurgical Group of Texas who asked Dr. Gist to join their practice after completion of his residency. He was then promoted to full partner in the practice within one year.Dr. Gist treats a variety of neurosurgical conditions including low back pain, sciatica, radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, disk herniations, scoliosis, complex spinal deformities, spinal fractures, brain and spine tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, carpal tunnel syndrome, and Chiari malformations. Biography: Dr. Leahy believes in taking a conservative approach to treating the spine. In my practice, surgical treatment of spinal disorders is always a last resort. It is only after exhaustive conservative efforts have been made that surgery is appropriate. I feel that this is the safest approach to treating the spine and allows for the best surgical outcomes.Dr. Leahy is a strong proponent of minimally invasive surgical techniques, including nonfusion procedures such as artificial disc replacement and adult stem cell therapy. He is proficient in all of the most current surgical techniques in the treatment of spinal disorders. He incorporates these treatment alternatives into his practice whenever possible. Biography: Enrique J. Garcia-Pena, M.D., is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Texas Bone & Joint and practices in Houston, Texas. Dr. Garcia-Pena was born and raised on the island of Puerto Rico and is a native Spanish speaker. He received a bachelor's degree in Biology from the prestigious University of Chicago and then obtained a Master's degree in Medical Sciences and Research from Boston University. He then returned home to Puerto Rico to continue his lifelong dream of practicing medicine and graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Dr. Garcia-Pena completed his residency program in Orthopedic Surgery at one of the busiest trauma hospitals in the Caribbean and well-known throughout the region: the Medical Sciences Center from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.Dr. Garcia-Pena completed his fellowship training at the Baylor College of Medicine and Ironman Sports Medicine Institute in Houston, Texas. Dr. Garcia-Pena served as assistant to the Team Physician of the Houston Texans, Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, Houston Dynamo, University of Houston Athletics, and area high schools.Dr. Garcia-Pena specializes in arthroscopic procedures and joint reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee with particular interest in sports medicine and helping patients maintain an active lifestyle.
