Biography: Selam Whitfield, MD is an OB/GYN surgeon. She joined Matlock OB/GYN in 2021 and provides general obstetric and gynecological services for women of all ages. Dr. Whitfield enjoys providing comprehensive care for women throughout some of the most challenging, vulnerable, and empowering stages of life. She is passionate about improving health literacy in her patients in order to facilitate shared decision making. Her clinical interests include contraception management, adolescent care, and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Whitfield received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky in 2017. In 2021 she completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she served as Administrative Chief Resident in her final year and was awarded Resident of the Year and Outstanding Resident in Minimally Invasive Surgery. She is a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Society of Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgeons. Dr. Tamra Fortenberry joined Matlock OB/GYN in 2008 after completing her Obstetrics and Gynecology training in the Memphis, Tennessee area.She attended medical school at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and received her doctorate of medicine in 2004. Dr. Fortenberry then completed her residency at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2008.She is a Junior Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association and the Tarrant County Medical Society.Dr. Fortenberry is active in healthcare community outreach and education programs.
