Biography: R. Shane Barton, MD, MBA, MPH, MS, FAAOS, FAOA, FACS, returns to the Willis Knighton Physician Network and The Orthopaedic Clinic to continue his practice in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine. He will serve as executive medical director of Willis Knighton Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. Dr. Bartons clinical expertise ranges from nonoperative sports medicine to complex operative reconstruction of the shoulder, elbow and knee, and in addressing medical issues of athletes. A native of East Texas, he graduated as a Presidential Endowed Scholar from Texas A&M University, working as a computer engineer with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. At NASA, he was awarded multiple research honors for his work in robotic vision and image processing. He then attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine, graduating with honors as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He went on to Harvard Medical School-Massachusetts General Hospital, where he finished his fellowship training in shoulder and sports medicine in 2005, serving as the assistant team physician for the New England Patriots. While there, he served as a graduate clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School. In addition, Dr. Barton earned a Master of Public Health degree at LSU Health/LSU Shreveport and completed an MBA and Master of Science in Healthcare Management and Leadership at University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical School. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, with additional board certification in sports medicine. Dr. Barton has served patients in the Ark-La-Tex since 2005. He maintains an academic appointment as Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at LSU Health Shreveport where he was previously Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. Through the years, he has served as team physician for many regional sports clubs and schools. Dr. Barton is also a commissioned reserve deputy with the Caddo Parish Sheriffs Office, and a tactical medical director for Caddo Parish Sheriffs Office and for the Louisiana State Police SWAT team. He is the holder of several medical device patents. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, co-authored a book, written book chapters, and presented nationally and internationally. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Barton finds great joy in his personal life with his wife, Tammy, and his two children, Ethan (Olivia) and Ella Grace.

Biography: Mark C. Callanan, Jr., MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified (American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery) orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in sports medicine. Additionally he has obtained secondary sports medicine certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, and he is currently a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS). He treats musculoskeletal conditions resulting from injury, overuse, and arthritis, specializing in arthroscopic and minimally-invasive surgical techniques, which reduce post-operative recovery time and allow for an earlier return to work and play. He is also trained in cartilage restoration procedures, and the use and application of biologics to aid in injury recovery. Dr. Callanan completed his undergraduate studies at Michigan State University with a degree in Human Biology. Following his undergraduate work, he spent 2 years completing his master's degree at Boston University while actively working in the renowned Harris Orthopedics Biomechanics and Biomaterials Lab at Massachusetts General Hospital focusing on hip arthroplasty research. He further continued his education at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in Grand Rapids Michigan, where he was an elected member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He went on to complete his residency in orthopedic surgery at the prestigious Harvard Combined Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program where he was selected to be chief resident at Massachusetts General Hospital his final year of training. He then completed his formal education with a Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Fellowship at the Andrew's Institute in Pensacola Florida where he trained under the renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews and his highly skilled partners. The fellowship provided him with an immersive experience in operative and non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in many professional and collegiate athletes. His team physician experience included coverage of Auburn University football and athletics, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos AA Baseball Team, as well as some of the local area high schools. Dr. Callanan has published numerous scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is actively involved in several ongoing studies. He has authored a book chapter, presented his research at national and regional meetings, and has received awards related to his research and academic pursuits including the prestigious John Charnley Award. He currently resides in Shreveport with his wife and their two dogs. He enjoys powerlifting, physical fitness, fishing, hunting, and most outdoor activities.

Biography: Dr. Mody received an honorary Bachelor of Arts degree from Central High School in Philadelphia, Pa., the second oldest magnet high school in the country. He then graduated summa cum laude from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science degree with double majors in economics and management and double minors in psychology and biology. He completed his medical school at the world-renowned University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine before a five-year residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He specialized in spine with a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgery spine fellowship at the University of Texas and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. Dr. Mody received board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Mody has coauthored numerous scientific and technical publications for noted academic journals as well as presented and lectured at regional, national and international conferences. He has taught his spinal surgery techniques to surgeons from Germany, Tasmania, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Austria, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, United Kingdom and Malaysia, either at WK Pierremont Health Center or at conferences. In Houston Dr. Mody provided spine and sports care for the Houston Texans and Houston Rockets as well as for the Rice University Owls. In Shreveport, Dr. Mody has provided spine care for the Shreveport Battlewings, Mudbugs hockey, Cavaliers football as well as for other local athletes and celebrities. Biography: Born and raised in Shreveport, Dr. Hefner is thankful to be able to serve the community in which he was raised. A graduate of Northwood High School, Dr. Hefner earned his undergraduate degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. From there he graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in molecular and cellular biology as well as a minor in chemistry. Afterwards he attended LSU Health Sciences center in Shreveport where he attained his medical degree. Dr. Hefner completed his residency in neurosurgery at LSU Health Sciences in Shreveport. He participated in numerous basic science and clinical research projects, earning special recognition for some. Dr. Hefner has published book chapters, numerous articles in peer reviewed journals, and has presented at several state and national conferences. He served as chief resident from 2020-2021. Dr. Hefner has also spent significant time in an enfolded fellowship with Dr. Anthony Sin focusing on adult and pediatric complex spine surgery. Dr. Hefner is very excited to join WK in serving the community he loves to call home. He has interest in adult neurosurgery including the surgical treatment of a variety of brain, spinal, and peripheral nerve disorders. He has a particular interest in minimally invasive treatment options. He is happily married to his high school sweetheart Amy, and is the proud father of four beautiful daughters, Madison, Kensley, Nicole, and Makayla.When not practicing medicine, Dr. Hefner enjoys being involved in his church where he serves as a deacon, international travel, reading, amateur astronomy, and anything car related.
