Biography: Maria Kyriacou, M.D., is a primary care sports medicine physician at Miami Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Institute. Dr. Kyriacou specializes in non-surgical treatments for acute, overuse and chronic orthopedic problems. She has a special interest in sports-related injuries, joint arthritis, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided procedures. During her fellowship training, Dr. Kyriacou was involved in stem cell, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and amniotic regenerative orthobiologic therapy. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Greek. During her fellowship, Dr. Kyriacou was part of the medical team for the Miami Dolphins, Florida International University, St. Thomas University and Barry University. She currently serves as a team physician for Florida International University. In 2019, Dr. Kyriacou was named Resident Teacher of the Year at Phoebe Health. She has also presented at a number of sports medicine conferences and meetings. Dr. Kyriacou served as the medical director for the Sneakers Marathon in Albany, Georgia in 2018 and as the event physician for Escape to Miami and Lifetime Miami Marathon in 2019. Dr. Kyriacou provides exceptional patient care by treating her patients as if they were family. She strives to listen to each patient to determine the best approach to treatment. I am a well-rounded surgeon with extensive experience in forefoot disease, arthritis, sports, trauma, and diabetes. I have a comprehensive approach to manage foot and ankle disorders and sport-related injuries with the goal of returning patients to their activities of choice.I have 8 years of experience in the military treating elite athletes and special forces patients, taking into consideration their unique goals and limitations with the aim of returning them quickly to high-impact sport. Using a combination of new devices, arthroscopic techniques and focused physical therapy, patients have an excellent opportunity to resolve their acute and chronic problems.As one of only 7% of female orthopaedic surgeons in the United States, I am also able to forge a distinct relationship with my lady patients as we treat their muscloskeletal disease. I offer a warm and friendly environment where bone, muscle, and joint disorders are managed within the setting of the many demands placed on women today.Finally, I am a proud product of the Cuban Diaspora with a deep respect for the elders of our community.
