Biography: Wayne Hwang, MD, FACC, is a board-certified cardiologist who specializes in consultative cardiology, coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, peripheral arterial interventions, interventional cardiology, congestive heart failure, hypertension and functional cardiac stress testing. _x000D_ Dr. Hwang believes it is important to understand the disease process and to put that into the context of what the patient is going through by understanding each patient's story. He practices individualized, evidence-based medicine. _x000D_ Dr. Hwang serves as deputy section chief for Cardiology, and director for both the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Cardiac Wellness Clinic. Biography: Mariko Harper, MD, FACC is a board-certified cardiologist who specializes in all aspects of adult cardiology including: coronary artery disease, hyperlipidemia, valvular heart disease, arrhythmias, genetic/infiltrative cardiomyopathy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and heart failure. She has a special expertise in advanced heart failure and advanced cardiac imaging with additional training and board certifications in both echocardiography and nuclear cardiology. _x000D_ Dr. Harper serves as the Medical Director of The Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy Center at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. Under her direction, she has created a regional center providing an individualized approach to the diagnosis, genetic testing, advanced cardiac imaging and medical/surgical management of patients with HCM. Each patient is reviewed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians and treatment plans are designed with patient input, using a shared decision making model. The HCM Center offers comprehensive HCM treatments including: medical therapy, defibrillator implantation, alcohol septal ablation and surgical septal myectomy. The HCM Center is also one of the first centers in the PNW to offer the recently FDA-approved novel HCM medication mavacamten (Camzyos®) through a comprehensive drug safety program. She also serves as a principal investigator for ongoing HCM clinical trials. _x000D_ Dr. Harper has authored and published multiple peer reviewed articles and book chapters in a wide range of topics in cardiology. She has been an invited speaker at both national and regional meetings on topics including hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hyperlipidemia, and preventive cardiology. Following her passion for patient education and cardiovascular disease prevention, she is also one of the course directors for the ``Food Is Medicine`` continuing medical education lecture series at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health. Dr. Harper believes in patient-centered and patient-driven care. Biography: J. Susie Woo, MD, is a board-certified cardiologist. Her medical interests include preventive and diagnostic cardiology; echocardiography; cardiac risk assessment; and valvular and aortic disease. She has specialized training in cardiac imaging and heart failure, with additional board certifications in Nuclear Cardiology and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology._x000D_ Dr. Woo makes it a priority to listen and develop a strong patient-doctor relationship through education and open communication. She recognizes the need to understand each patient's differences and preferences, from the impact of genetics, race and gender to their reactions to medications and response to treatment. _x000D_ Dr. Woo was the Medical Director for Education and Outreach before taking on the role as Section Head for Cardiology at Virginia Mason in 2020. Biography: Elizabeth Gold, MD, is a board-certified cardiologist with special interest in women's cardiovascular health, primary prevention of cardiovascular disease, risk factor reduction and research into the underlying cause of atherosclerosis. _x000D_ Dr. Gold enjoys working with patients over time, empowering them to make healthy lifestyle choices and making a positive difference in their lives. As a researcher studying the interaction between inflammation and lipid metabolism, she is able to bring the latest scientific insights into her conversations with patients. _x000D_ Dr. Gold is a senior scientist with the Institute for Systems Biology and a Fellow with the American College of Cardiology. _x000D_ Away from work, Dr. Gold spends time riding and competing with her horse, and enjoying the outdoors with her dogs.
