If you don’t know something and you fake it, that’s very dangerous as a medical professional!! I went to Immediate Care (noted as Orthopedic emergency care as well) with a suspected distal bicep tear. Just suffered the same injury a year ago and had surgery to repair, so clear understanding of the associated pain, where pain is specific, and what to look for with the potential injury. I visited this urgent care because I’m new to the area and don’t know any Orthos here. This PA asked what was wrong, I shared what I was feeling, how it happened, and the visible difference in the two biceps. She did no “hook test” to feel for the tendon, nor any of the other movements any treating physician uses to diagnose this injury. She asked if I could make a curl motion, which I did then I explained the pain is primarily with supination/pronation, to which she said “that’s interesting”. It’s literally the first sign of a possible distal tendon tear! That was her full exam, that one motion.
