Today I reached out to Susan M. Steinbrueck, PHD via the contact information posted online as I saw she was nearby & in-network for my insurance plan. I have been seeking talk therapy via another provider in Milwaukee but wanted someone who is closer to home so it is easier to attend sessions. After my brief phone interaction, unsure how/why she went into mental health for a profession. I didn't even make it to the point of seeing her. She answered her office phone angrily with "Where did you even get my number? What do you want?". I politely explained I am struggling with postpartum anxiety & depression - & was interested in being seen closer to where I live. She paused for a awkward amount of time, then said, "Ugh. I really don't have time to help you." Like I am a burden & waste of her time. What a scary way to be "greeted" as I am trying to seek help. I was at a complete loss for words & completely defeated, I simply apologized for calling her & hung up. I hope my interaction with Susan is not the standard, it takes so much courage to ask for help & to be treated like you are a burden hurts when you are already in a depressed state. Her words/actions could easily push someone beyond the edge to do harm.
