Shoshana Marchand, PMHNP-BC

I had a lot of trouble working with Shoshana. I think she has good intent, but can sometimes come off cold, unfeeling, and rushed. I would not recommend working with her if you have experienced trauma. She also struggles to hear feedback in her work, which is really important when you work in a sensitive field like mental health. I once gave her feedback that I didn't feel heard in our appointments, and her reaction was to say 'I'm sorry you feel that way,' claim she is 'only human' and refer me out.I've never had such a stressful relationship with a provider before. At first I thought it was me and that it was related to my mental health, so I just kept going. But literally any other provider I have had a positive relationship with. There is something she is bringing to the dynamic that is really tough on patients. I hope she is able to seek care herself or receive additional help (like a scheduler, admin staff) which might aid in her stress management and improve her relationships.

She seem to really understand me in a way I haven't felt in a while. I've really struggled with getting good psychiatry care but she's empathetic, listens extremely well, and has an excellent grasp of queer subjects. On our first appointment she made sure I was okay after talking about some triggering stuff, and her care is something I took very much to heart.

She’s really hot and cold. Catch her on a really good day and she’s nice, but if she’s having an okay day, be prepared for a cold human and on a bad day, a very demeaning condescending human. Too bad there aren’t many med prescribers in the area because choices are limited.

I am literally traumatized by seeing her.

Ms. Marchand prescribed me half the equivalent dose of medication as what I had been taking, saying "let's keep it at X mg" (when X mg of the new medication is equivalent to half the dose of my old medication) . . . leading me to believe that I was getting the same dosage, when in fact she was halving it to "see if I would notice." That is not informed consent and not the type of care I'm looking for. I will not be returning to see Ms. Marchand.

I worked with her for a while and at first she seemed nice and comforting but eventually gaslit me and made me feel like an idiot. She was my first psychiatrist so I just accepted it for a while until she left me in a lurch when I was at my worst. Without even checking to see if I had enough of my meds left before having to find another psychiatrist because she was no longer available to help me. I honestly think she just didn’t want to work with me anymore after constantly refusing to give me ADHD medication even though I was clinically diagnosed after years of my therapist insisting that I have it. A blessing in disguise as I found a way nicer more caring and professional psychiatrist who actually helps.

I sure wish I had read the reviews sooner, at least I have some comfort in knowing I am not the only patient with a less than stellar experience with miss Marchand. I started seeing her a few years ago, she was alright at first but as time went on she seemed to have become rather combative on occasion. She even had me stop a medication I was on without even telling me I was supposed to be weaned off it, all because of the minute chance I may have developed permanent muscle spasms, mind you I was on a very low dose. It seemed that her primary interest was not talking to me, establishing a solid rapport with me, instead it was always just the bill. Via telehealth appointments she wouldn't tell me if I owed her a copayment, seemingly she just waited to tell me two or three appointments later, basically just allowing them to pile up without even informing me. She is okay if all you need is just prescriptions, but in my opinion she chose the wrong line of work. Please beware!

Awful from moment one. She does not care she does not provide any of the services. Wasted 7 months to be treated like crap. And am worse for the wear. Triggered everything that makes me never reach out for help. And this is decades in the making of not reaching out i finally do and she is what i get. Do not waste ur time on a person who is clearly just doing barely enough to collect from your insurance. She just repeats everything bc she either doesnt take notes or doesnt care to establish any report at all. Not insightful just judgy and not good at it. If u need actual help find anyone else. If u need a simple antidepressant and nothing more shes for you. But u have a pcp for that now dont you. Ruuuuun.

Shosana is a complete and utter bully. It is truly shocking. Her only form of communication regarding the administrative side of her business is gaslighting you. She is always late for appointments and will act like YOU'RE the one who is wrong for not being considerate enough that she is over 25 mins late for a 30 min appointment. She'll say it's because she was busy with another client but it's because she forgot. She will actively lie about these simple things and become overly aggressive with you. A real nice trait for someone treating others with mental illness!

She treated a family member who got an effective prescription but dreaded her appointments and eventually stopped treatment because of the lack of rapport. Knowledgeable but jaw droppingly combative in my only direct interaction with her (I don’t think a stranger has ever berated me more) and seems to take perverse pride in being difficult to communicate with. There are other psychiatric providers in Northampton who are as competent and far more compassionate and personable. Unless you have very thick skin I recommend going elsewhere.

I was initially unsure if working with Shoshana would be an appropriate fit for me. However, I have been working with her for 8 months and I am so glad that I chose to continue working with her! She is slow to warm up and very direct, and she may not be an appropriate fit for everyone, but I could not be more pleased with my care. She is thorough, thoughtful, and truly listens to my concerns. She has also always returned my calls promptly when I call during her office hours of 8-9am.

Wow. How does she work with people ? Faulsly accusing me of missed appointments , only interested in billing ins and not even knowing my name when i demanded my co pay back ! Terrible treatment also she wasted sll the time trying to work her lap top . Awful and RUDE

she was one of the worst people, let alone doctors, i've ever spoken to. i was shaken for weeks after. terribly unkind, unsympathetic, combative and arrogant.

Absolutely awful. She had no idea who I was whenever I called. She only offers office hours from 8a-9am, but when you call at those times she's unavailable. Does not use any other form of communication, not even for appointment reminders. She is completely unprofessional and critical. Do not seek treatment with her if you are looking for a welcoming environment.
