Found Dr. Ruckel to be caring and sympathetic to my back issue. Was honest about effectiveness of the epidural steroid shot and if it doesn’t work we will try a different type of steroid.

Agree with the others: Stay Away!
I agree with h the other negative reviews. He’s the PA for Lahey neurosurgery pain management, and it’s shocking how off the mark he is. As just one example of three negative interactions with him, I complained that one of my medications was making me nauseous and that I had the feeling of needing to vomit. He told me I should make sure I have a bag if I’m going to vomit. I’m not kidding. Wish I were.

After 3 meetings with this man, I feel like he's the person assigned to patients the clinic doesn't want to keep as patients. He's that bad.

I had to pester him for the results of my updated MRI. I requested a script for PT which I needed, as a result of the MRI, and he ignored me for 4 days and then had no recollection of the request. On 2 separate occasions he consulted with me without bothering to look at my extensive history and recommended injections, which I am not a candidate for due to moderate nerve bundling in the spine. He also told me that as long as I can tolerate the pain, I'm fine.

After telling him specifically about the challenges with taking NSAIDs because of Crohn's Disease, he prescribed diclofenac saying that since it's a topical gel, it shouldn't impact by digestive system. WRONG!!!!

Seen this gentlemen 3 times. 1st two times he seemed more concerned with telling me he didn't supply drugs then he actually did worry about my back. Was extremely frustrating since I had zero intentions in asking for drugs, nor have I ever liked taking them anyway. 3rd trip wasnt much better since my back was having a good day seemed to get the are you really hurt treatment. Oh well time for a different person. Had I read these reviews I'd have just found someone else.

I found his attitude incredibly dismissive: Your pain doesn't present itself like I would expect it to if it were a nerve problem, so it's not a nerve problem. He asked me if I wanted a prescription...that's for me to decide? Then he gave me voltarin to rub onto my back. I told him I had no pain in back, my knee and thigh were giving me problems. He said to rub whatever was left on my finger on my knee and leg.
