I began seeing Pat Burke before the pandemic began, so I was a regular. She is an okay therapist, but she does not listen. I would have a session with her, tell her what's bothering me, she would give her opinion. I would come back next time with the same issue still bothering me and it was like we never spoke about it. Usually the opinion she gave that time being worse than the one before. I say opinion, because there was no advice or steps to take for a possible resolution to my issues given in those sessions. Some of here opinions on what I should do to resolve a conflict in my life were unethical. She didn't start to write anything down until I inquired if she was even listening to me. A lot of times I felt she was talking down to me. You should never go on the defensive with your therapist, but some time I felt I had to. I would leave the sessions feeling worse than when I went in. That is why I decided to discontinue my sessions with her.

I saw Patricia multiple times as a teen and in my early 20s. I decided to share my experience in the hope of helping someone else. I was sexually assaulted as a child and began seeing Patricia as a teen after a suicide attempt. She suggested I needed tough love. To be cut off from any comforts I had at the most basic level. During therapy, she often fell asleep and failed to take notes or remember what we spoke on. When I was an adult I had a lot of anxiety and made the regrettable decision to see her again. To be vulnerable is hard. I brought a journal in with me filled with notes and questions. I was ready to do the work to get better. I developed adult acne and stopped wearing makeup in an attempt to better control my skin. She suggested I put more effort into my appearance to wear more makeup. When I asked if she recommended any books on my issues she gave me the only book she had. "How to Counsel Victims of Sexual Assault." This experience turned me off of therapy for years.
