The provider's bedside manner was very awkward and she seemed to have no knowledge of the referral process and in-network provider access protocol. As such, the referral was sent without the required information being provided to the insurance and thus the cart was placed before the horse and authorization was not obtained prior to the referral being received by the other facility. If we had gone ahead and trusted that she and her office had done the required steps in the referral process we would be left paying the full bill of service. Perhaps she should try to become more well-rounded with the whole process involved with patient interaction and not just the awkward bedside manner part.
