She explained things well and helped me understand my symptoms and treatment . She is funny and listened to me . The medication has helped me and I have done much better . She also encourage me to go to counseling to help with stress and the UNCW counseling center was helpful .

I started seeing Melissa at the end of June to help me manage my meds for bipolar, OCD, and anxiety. She always works hard to tackle the issues and makes sure the meds are just right. She is devoted to her job and you can tell she really loves it. She has been there for me, not only in person but through email and responds quickly. She really cares about her patients and just wants them to live their best life possible. Melissa even takes longer than the allotted time with me, and doesn’t rush me to leave. She really takes her time. She tailors treatment plans to the individual and really explains the benefits/cons to treatment, while making sure the patient understands. She has really opened up my eyes on the “why” and how things work in our psyche. She goes above and beyond, as I’m a difficult case and she doesn’t let that stop her from making sure I am moving forward.

She interrupts, doesn’t allow you to finish a sentence. Wants to over medicate you. Rushed me out of appointments

This PA jumped immediately to prescribing medications without reading patient's medical history or discussing it. She also started patient at the maximum dose rather than starting at a smaller dose and gradually increasing it as needed. This is contrary to recommended practice. She failed to discuss medication risks or side effects or interactions with other medications. When patient and family called to ask questions and express concerns, this PA actually hung up on them. Unprofessional.

Very caring and intelligent. Dr. Ulstad knows exactly what she is doing. She has a great sense of humor and cares for her patients. She was able to balance out my ADHD medications and now I feel better than ever. Would definitely recommend her to anyone!
