Melanie mills utilizes therapy practices such as sand tray and EDMR well for clients needing that type of therapy. However I’m my experience of having been her client up until last October, there was too much personal information shared during the first 15 mins of each session. She also had me buy a workbook for DBT therapy but we always “got off of track.” When I asked her about my goals from 7 years ago set for therapy she explained “I just took them off of the charts.” In my experience , we had no goals outlined for therapy and the first 15-20 mins of each session , immediately after asking how I’m doing, she would talk about her own personal life , and I experienced her being judgmental about my beliefs towards men. In her website psychology today, I had noticed several things were removed from her “clientele focus”, which now is a good thing. But the amount of crisis is still experienced even after therapy sessions was all too much to cope with under her care.

Melanie seemed to be a great therapist at first, and does well with doing EMDR. In my experience she laughed quite a lot in sessions and I felt awkward and wondering why she laughed and I think it was nervousness. I’m not sure . She also goes on tangents about her personal life but she’s an awesome therapist . In my experience she was good but talks too much in a tangent about her own issues for half the session. When she’s not discussing herself she is awesome !! I give her two stars because of so much awkwardness and her going on and on about her personal life sometimes. But not all the time. Overall she’s ok…

Mrs. Melanie Mills was my therapist for 8 years off and on when I moved out of town. I felt very supported especially being lgbt. Now Melanie is a straight therapist, and as time went on things began to get personal. Melanie mills and I are artists (not together), but she went dumpster diving with me to my job to fetch old books for collages, and came to my apartment a week later to pick up remainder. She would share personal information about her husband and she having couples therapy in the past and how he was too demanding. I would expect a therapist to not share their private life. She also had some sort of erotic / attraction of some sort as I am lgbt and she would say I’m very charming to “charm the birds out of trees.” I didn’t want to take the therapeutic boundaries and cross them, so she referred me out to another therapist. This experience scarred me bc she manipulated me into having this friend type of therapy with her. Now I’m trying to heal and forget that experience .

My therapist referred me to Melanie mills because she was said to do well in couples therapy for couples. Once I explained what we needed help with regarding arguing , she suddenly stated she’s not seeing couples. Yet her site says she does couples counseling. She also never returned my calls, I had to leave several voicemails. No one should have to leave several messages to be returned. I did not have a good experience at all.

I was referred by my previous therapist and had a horrible experience in trying to reach Dr. Mills. She never answered my call, and once telling my therapist that she was taking clients, she suddenly stated she isn’t seeing clients for couples counseling. Yet on her profile it says couples. This was awful because I had left multiple messages. I am still confused as to why she states she sees couples but denied me and my wife .

Melanie mills was my therapist for 6 years. She stated she was not trained to deal with the borderlines and instead of referring out in a timely fashion she did abrupt termination. She is an awesome sand tray therapist and great at feminist theory but she should consider training for DBT. I also think she would benefit from cultural awareness training. I experienced transference and countertransference in the sessions. In my sessions, we never discussed the termination process, set goals and revisit them, and she didn’t keep her personal opinions she does not agree with to herself. As a school counselor, I am disappointed that I felt she crossed many boundaries that can become scope of practice.
