Dr. Mayimuna Pettiford, PHD

This woman is a blight on the mental health profession. Her lack of compassion, empathy, and basic human qualities amazed me. How is she allowed to still practice? She was extremely rude and nasty, and I will be honest. It took every fiber on my being to stop from slapping that Stupid smirk off of her face. Complete horror.

Dr. Pettiford demonstrates a complete lack of sensitivity each time we meet. She is dismissive and condescending toward me with respect to my postpartum diagnosis. She says that my psychiatrist and therapist is wrong and my postpartum depression is simply what new moms feel like after they have a baby. She has made a point to tell me on several occasions that regardless of what other medical professionals concluded with respect to my postpartum diagnosis. The result of this taunting, distrustful approach on her part is that rather than having a productive session about where I am and need to be emotionally and physically as a result of post-partum depression, I am put in a position to defend myself. Whether or not Dr. Pettiford does it consciously is not for me to say. What I can say is that her manner with me feels threatening and leaves me a wreck, with zero ability to focus on myself, after.
