She is a biased and ineffective therapist. During session she filed her nails, which showed how involved and attentive she was in couples therapy.

Working with Peggy saved our marriage, and we highly recommend her. She taught us how to listen to each other without defensiveness, and how to appreciate each other on a daily basis. I am puzzled by the reviewer who described her as "judgmental," as we found her to be gentle, unbiased and empathic. Also, her fee is in keeping with what other couples' therapists charge; every session is 90 minutes long, and she has a sliding scale in case of financial need. I have sent many friends her way.

Rigid and judgmental. She charges $250 per session not covered by insurance. She terminated us by email because a sudden financial issue caused us to need to cancel our appointment (40 hours in advance). She did not ask the reason for cancellation because that was obviously irrelevant to her. This whole experience left such a sour taste that both of us agree we will not attempt marital therapy again.

My partner and I have been working with Peggy to defuse the tension in our relationship. What I like is that she is fair - she does not take sides. Each person is affirmed for their experience. At the same time, Peggy offers understanding and tools that allow love to come forward and personal baggage to move off center stage. One session with her brings more value than many elsewhere. We needed a handful of sessions to unwind things and shift the relationship into a good space.

I saw Dr. Buttenheim during a divorce process. She was very helpful and insightful, regarding how to cope and helped address issues regarding separation, and parenting teenagers.
