Mara really helped me during the toughest time in my life. I’m am really thankful she was my therapist at the time.

I decided to finally reach out for help. I wanted to address some personal struggles that I won't disclose here, as well as my abuse of alcohol. After only two appointments, she told me she wasn't going to continue seeing me until I "achieved a sustained period of recovery" because "we wouldn't want to dive into your issues right now, because we both know how you handle problems: you run away and drink." ??? What on earth? Seeing this provider has left me feeling far more vulnerable and unstable than before I saw her. I shared very personal things that are difficult for me to talk about and was then was almost immediately rejected, and I'm now left at the back of the line waiting for a new provider trying to not completely lose it in the meantime. Seeing her was not only unhelpful, it was a huge step back for me. You assume that a mental health professional can be trusted to not cause more harm, but this experience has shown me that isn't always the case.
