Dr. Luke Schwankl, MD

He helped me immensely during a very dark time in my past (following the death of a parent). I went to him with much trepidation, but he immediately put me at ease, listened carefully, and helped me get my situation stabilized. I am grateful.

He asks leading questions that are VERY frightening without giving you a reason/explanation. I am healthy, young, on ADHD meds that I hardly take. He began asking if I was hallucinating and wouldn’t take no for an answer. It scared me! And when I put my foot down and said “no, this has absolutely never happened” he scoffed. You want to trust the medical professionals you work with, but he was trying to force me to say certain things. “Do you ever wake up and feel like your dream was real?” “Yeah, of course!” “Do you then go the whole day thinking that dream happened and seeing pieces of that dream in real life, not knowing it was a dream?” After I said no, never, he kept pushing and asking if my body did things unexpectedly. It’s scary to have a mental health professional asking you these questions insinuating something bigger is going on, but never telling you a reason for asking. He is now withholding my meds because I asked for a VERY slight adjustment. I’ve been on these meds for six years and initially asked him to provide me a lower rx then I was ever previously prescribed, with expectation and discussion that it may change. I’ve messaged him three times. He has not responded. Instead, he set up an appointment in the middle of the day 3 months from now. He is rude, short, condescending, and horrific to speak to. Wish I could give 0 stars.

Dr Schwankl fails to listen to the patient and feels his ideals of treatment are right and there is no changing that. I have had multiple visits and each visit I was put on a new medication that caused me great discomfort, to fix the discomfort I was put on a higher dosage. It seems like he has no idea what he is doing and will just try to sedate you with whatever works. He also was very rude responding to me emails. I was having metal trouble and sent a few emails in a panic. I was then told that I was using “email” wrong and he cannot deal with my questions or discomfort at that time. I was dismissed and I feel personally disliked by Dr Schwankl. I am seeing a shrink for a reason, I am asking for help. He doesn’t want to help, he wants to be as efficient as possible do he doesn’t have to put in any extra work. A selfish, under qualified and unprofessional doctor. Good luck everyone, stay clear of this doc!

Never felt that a "shrink" personally disliked me! Whether or not this is so, the sensation is not conducive to trust and comfort. He seemed irritated by me, too busy to attend to my needs, and seemingly exasperated, or feeling put upon. In years of understanding and utilizing therapy when I have needed it, I never have felt considerably worse after appointments. This man succeeded in evoking such a response; not a great distinction.

Virtual visit. Got thorough assessment on my depression. Positive experience with this psychiatrist.

My experience meeting with Dr. Schwankl was very poor. He presented with extreme condescension and made no attempt to act like he cared or registered what I had to say. To think someone like this has control over peoples psychiatric treatment plans is disturbing. I came to see him for ADD treatment. I fear for those who come to see him for something more serious. He is clearly not someone who sees patients as people. The fact that there are multiple reviews echoing this sentiment demonstrates that this is not a one off occurrence or an 'off' day. I sincerely hope he reads these reviews and does some serious adjustments or gets out of this field entirely.

Dr. Schwankl was completely rude and misinformed of my needs during the visit . He displayed no professionalism in the care he provided. The notes from my visit could not have been more inaccurate of my requests, needs and presentation. I would recommend all patients stay clear of this awful MD.

Dr Schwankl arrived late to appointment even though I was the first patient of the day. He was disheveled, and offered no apology for being late. I had a few visits with Dr. Schwankl and found him to be lacking empathy, and watching the clock. He had little knowledge of Workers' Compensation Laws, and seemed to be into his own head. Most physicians that I have seen at KP have been outstanding, but not this one.
