I met Leila during a visit for my miscarriage at 11 weeks. That visit did more harm than good. Leila was supervising a student midwife, and standing back to supervise her. I was never asked if I was OK with having a student conduct my visit, nor was I informed that I didn't have to have a student. Anyhow, I had been struggling with infertility for years at this point and I was very emotional. I didn't ask Leila what may have caused my miscarriage, since I'm a family nurse practitioner myself I had my own theories. Anyhow, since I was in my late thirties at this point, Leila made sure to explain to me that my miscarriage was likely due to my advanced age and a problem with the egg. She clearly had not reviewed my chart, since this was a donor embryo pregnancy. Overall, I found her to lack sensitivity and compassion.
