Leah asked (not recommended, but asked) me to take my 18 month old to a neurologist merely based on her head circumference being on the lower end of the ‘Percentile’ and the fact that she is not using a spoon to eat her food. The problem with this is: 1). Asian kids are “generally” on the smaller end of the spectrum and “percentile calculator” does not take race or ethnicity into account while spitting out numbers 2). We are an Indian family and eat with our hands and not spoons 95% of the time. 3) My kid is meeting all age related development milestones. Each one of them and more. This was completely disregarded by Leah. 4). When I asked, She had no clue what the neurologist will test for and how. I found out that CT scans and MRI is the basic form of testing. Now, running a number of test with harmful rays on small body of a baby has may adverse affects, Which one would think a nurse practitioner would know before making such decisions. Turns out, my kid is perfectly normal.
