Dr. Katie Carper is extremely disappointing as a primary care provider and gives health care providers a bad name. Though her disposition appears pleasant, she is narrow-minded and short-sighted. She doesn’t listen to her patient’s needs and pleads, only focusing on what she deems important. My husband suffers from diabetes along with severe depression and anxiety. He also has long term chronic pain associated with a botched hernia repair. On our original visit, she talked about addressing his pain through other avenues than Opioids and said she would put in a referral to a pain clinic so he could get some help as well. Having diabetes, his A1C has been elevated for quite some time so he promised to work on getting it down so he could be able to go to see a surgeon not only for hernia repairs but possible exploratory surgery to determine any issues. We also told her many times that his “head” meds weren’t working and that they hadn’t been for quite some time. When the 3-month checkup came around, not only did she only focus on the tapering of the Opioids and did not address the fact that his A1C came down 2 points and ignored all warning flags that he was suicidal. We mentioned several times throughout the visit that his “head” meds weren’t working and that he needed help, but she barely acknowledged our pleas. She did change the medication but her demeanor throughout the visit was one of the final straws that sent my husband into being hospitalized at a Behavioral Health facility for a week. Her only response to him was to drop all Opioid medications because he had nothing in his system, so she determined he was in violation of his contract. She also said that ALL pain clinics in the entire region declined to accept him as a patient. In our opinion, she should no longer be able to treat patients. We were absolutely horrified with her treatment and will actively voice our concerns to anyone who will listen.
