Dr. Kathryn Oden, LPC

I have known Dr. Oden since she was my student in her PhD Counseling Program in the early 1990's. I have found her to be a conscientious and caring professional -- both clinically proficient and professionally ethical. Like anyone, she occasionally makes a mistake, and when she does, she takes responsibility and takes immediate action to correct it. When I am asked to provide a referral to a counseling in the McKinney area, Dr. Oden is the first person I think of and always included on my list.

I am a counselor who has had the opportunity to work with Dr. Oden at two different practices. At both, I have found her to be ethical, caring, and focused on the client's well-being. I frequently refer clients to her for EMDR work, and all are pleased with her gentle approach for moving through their trauma. I recommend her highly as a competent counselor.

Kathryn Oden treated us in a very unethical and greedy matter regarding insurance payments. She now owes us over $700 which she is unwilling to pay. For someone who stresses the need for honesty and authenticity, I find this very troubling. She informed us that she did not file insurance claims but did not inform us that she was a Cigna provider. We paid her the stated amount and agreed to file the claim on our own. When we did file with Cigna, they let us know that she was a Cigna provider and that the rate that she was charging was more than double the rate that she was contractually obligated to charge. They sent her a check for her contracted rate. They sent us an email to this effect which we forwarded to Kathryn. She agreed that she was a Cigna provider but told us that she didn’t like Cigna, would have never taken us on if we were a Cigna customer (although she never asked if we had Cigna), and refused to honor the Cigna contractual rate and kept our money as well.
