I was admitted to the ER due to chest pain and difficulty breathing. The ER dr treated me and told me to see a cardiologist. I made an appt with a GP to do the referral. The wait for my GP was 3 months, so I made an appt w/a dif. MD. She initiated a stress test. I waited months for that. Then I had to make another appt for the referral to the cardiologist again. It'll be be 2 yrs before I actually get in to see a heart doctor. I've been patient. In my last appt, I didn't overburden the MD with my regular prescriptions that needed refills, even though I'd taken time to do my annual. I thought I was being considerate making a separate appt just to get referrals and refills. I needed 2 other referrals for issues that were already in my chart. I brought a list of refills I needed. This nurse spent less than 10 min with me but when I mentioned the refills she shut me down. She refused to listen, and told me to talk to the pharmacist. Now I have to make another dr appt just to get my refills

We are told to take part in our healthcare, and many healthcare providers are really not interested in that model - some are discreetly hostile and some just develop a hearing impairment. Jessica actually asked me why I held a certain opinion, we discussed it -- it helped me and I think it helped her to know where I was coming from. I trust that I can actually be honest with her, and she will offer education and let me decide.
