Dr. Jeffrey Willems, PHD

I was hesitant to see a psychologist for a program I was referred to by a person who had gone through that program in the military. It took me a very long time to find a comparable civilian psychologist that was willing to, and had experience with the certain type of Therapy called ACT. it took a bit of a wait to be able to see Dr. Willem due to the schedule and this type of program that is not short term. I have never met human understanding and compassionate doctor as I did the day I hesitantly walked into his office. It has been almost 2 years now, since I saw his help with some tragedies, I has been through, and I am very thankful for his knowledge and guidance to help me through those times, and to give me the tools to be able to handle my entire life much better than I had before. It has been a game changer Going through this program with him and I will be forever grateful for his help in doing so.

As a female, I’ve always sought out other female providers (clinicians, therapists, etc.). I was new to the area and needed to find someone who was nearby and accepted my insurance. From the very first visit I had with Dr. Willems I knew this was going to be different- he truly wants to cure, not to bandaid. I hadn’t been exposed to CBT style of therapy before, and he explained it so well and what he hoped I’d be able to get out of it. For months he worked with me, and gradually I started to “think about my thoughts” in a healthier, more controlled way. My past trauma might have shaped how I perceive life today, but it no longer had to completely take over it. Dr. Willems really helped me to see things from a different perspective, that became my own- more healthy- perspective.

Honestly, I was hesitant to see a male psychologist but so grateful I went out of my comfort zone. Jeff really listens to what you are saying, picks up on emotion, and sees the big picture. He always reacts with just the right words and appropriately guides you in methods that work. Jeff has a wealth of information and is able to individualize your session to fit your personality. I truly feel valued as his empathetic nature, listening skills, and recollection of previous discussions are consistent with every session. I trust Jeff 100% and always know he will offer the right advice for me. With some professions, one doesn't want to go to just anyone. For me, a psychologist is one of those professions. Jeff is a stellar human being with a clear passion for helping others. Stevens Point is lucky to have him.
