My son who has a disability had broken his leg. From the ER scans, the bone was displaced & my son had stitches for a cut. He did no new scans & would not answer questions. There was no discussion of possible ligament & tendon damage. He told me I had homework to do & he thought a cast would be fine. While putting on the cast, they were rough & were literally cussing at my son to quit making noises like it hurt. We left & found a good doc who performed surgery and said you never cast over stitch

Provider recommended an "exocast" for my son's broken arm... talked about all the benefits. I asked him if it was typically billed and covered at the same level / price through insurances as a regular cast. He said, "yes." After insurance processed it, I received the huge bill! Much more than what a regular, fiberglass cast would have been. If he didn't know for sure, he should have said, "I am not sure, you should check with your insurance," and then given me the time to do so before casting.
