I have severe neck degeneration, pinching nerves as validated by MRI. My non-dominant, left arm can curl a 50lb dumbbell twice. My dominant, right arm, can't even curl a 15lb dumbbell. He ranked its strength at 5/5. He told me he was on my side, and he'd go advocate for me to the neurosurgeon. The neurosurgeon said there's nothing urgent. I wonder if his blatantly incorrect rating had anything to do with that. 15lbs is 30% of 50lbs. So if I COULD lift it, I'd be between a 1 and a 2. He'd ask questions, but wouldn't let me answer. He noted in my chart that I "made comments throughout the visit" and that I "only" saw PT once. Yes, I did, and would have gone more, if I was important enough for them to schedule in a timely manner. However per my PT, neurologist, nurses, medical professionals I know personally - PT is unlikely to do anything in this case. I used to be a trainer and would roll my eyes when people said they think they might need surgery for specific joint/muscle issues. I'd have them do some exercises, and in two weeks, boom, magically fixed. I would NEVER want to jump to surgery ESPECIALLY with my spine unless not doing so could potentially lead to lifelong disability. Nurses have been nearly killed at my current job in the past year. I can't defend myself with this arm, but this guy just wanted me to shut up and go home. He constantly interrupted me and disregarded my valid concerns.
