Thoughtful, informed, empathetic
I was referred to John Scaganelli after suffering multiple blows to the head that resulted in severe post concussive syndrome. After the initial assessment and diagnostics, Harry Lay followed up for my next appointments. He was warm and very empathetic with a dash of nerdiness and humor that lightened my mood dispute the difficult circumstances. I had to start navigating the complicated process of going on disability, and he was incredibly helpful and no-nonsense. When I asked if he would fill out my disability paperwork, he proceeded to fill it out during my appointment. There was no need to wait for the medical records department to fax it to my disability company. Who does that these days? I was stressing about whether he would approve it. He commented “it’s a no-brainer” (pun intended). i have many chronic illnesses that complicate my recovery (like EDS and dysautonomia). Harry was very forthright about the limits of his knowledge and happy to refer me to other specialists.

I'm ok seeing Harry vs the Dr. that he works with and he's made it clear that I can meet w/ the Dr. at any time but I'm comfortable for now. He takes his time at each appointment, listened to my symptoms, coordinated the right tests and diagnosed and offered logical treatment for me discussing the options and expectations. Follow-up appts have gone well so I plan to continue seeing him as long as I'm stable and trust that he'll make the right recommendation if that changes. Brain Fog = Seizure. He speaks "engineering" so we were able to relate very well.
