I saw Eugenia for 8yrs. She was very helpful, but the end was difficult. I had told her I felt too dependent on her and I wanted to quit. She disagreed and pushed me to have a breakthru. I wasn't able to. She became harsh and exasperated. I was hurt. We ended it. Years later I saw she had added a new, negative diagnosis after that last session, without my knowledge. It put a stigmatizing label on my chart that could cause claim denials. I requested written explanation. She copied criteria from DSM, attributed none of my behavior to them, and refused further communication. My new therapist of 3yrs said the diagnosis was unjustified. Two other clinicians reviewed my chart and said the diagnosis lacked justification and was unnecessary. Even if the diagnosis had been an honest mistake, her withholding it from me was very harmful and wrong. The secrecy and her refusal to explain her reasoning was a devastating betrayal to me. Fortunately, the clinic did strike the diagnosis from my chart.
