I’ve seen D. Bolhuis ARNP for several years since my previous provider left. Initially, she was kind, attentive, and informative for routine visits, which I valued. However, when I raised concerns about perimenopause symptoms in my late 30s and early 40s—night sweats, irregular periods, mood swings—she was dismissive. In my early 40s, despite premature menopause being uncommon but not unheard of at my age, she rolled her eyes, said she “highly doubted” it, and asked, “So what do you want?” I had to push for bloodwork and an ultrasound, which confirmed premature menopause with postmenopausal hormone levels. Results received on Thursday weren’t reviewed until Tuesday, and I wasn’t called directly by her about this significant diagnosis. I felt dismissed and problematic for advocating for tests covered by my insurance. Her reluctance to consider a plausible diagnosis was frustrating. I’m glad I persisted, but this experience eroded my trust.
