Danilo Novoa, LCSW

Danilo Novoa was my therapist for several years and only due to moving out-of-state I have had to discontinue my sessions with him. Danilo made me comfortable and always gave me advice that was appropriate and helpful. I enthusiastically recommend Danilo to anyone that needs counseling. My experience was extremely positive.

I began working with Danilo four years ago after experiencing several mental health crises in the years before and unhelpful experiences with other therapists. I give a lot of credit to my current stability to Danilo and the work we put in together. Having developed a plan to target past traumas, we worked on EMDR for many months and I feel confident in my ability to handle any new stressors or triggers related to these memories. The non-treatment sessions aren’t terribly helpful so I do recommend ensuring you have a regular appointment time and develop a treatment plan. He’s an expert in trauma and EMDR and highly recommend for anyone looking to reprocess memories and gain stability.

Danilo is patient and empathetic. He has helped me a lot with my performance anxiety and with working though nuanced relationship and family issues. As with any sort of relationship, my work with Danilo has had ups and downs. It needed willingness to be vulnerable on my part and the ability to connect the dots, be persistent and organized on his. We both took a little bit of time to get to where we need to be and have been working really well together ever since. I plan to continue therapy with Danilo for as long as I am in the Houston area.

Danilo Novoa was recommended to me after my therapist passed away unexpectedly. My first two sessions with Danilo felt strained and awkward, his demeanor was apathetic, and though he asked me a lot of questions to gather information, he was neither sympathetic, nor did he invite confidences with his attitude. Things were a little better for my third session when we actually began working through actual issues, but for what was supposed to be my fourth session, I had a medical emergency, and ended up trying to log in extremely late to the session. Danilo charged me over $100 for a missed session fee, and was completely unwilling to work with me on this given the medical emergency I went through. He is more concerned about his wallet than the mental well being of patients in his care.

Danilo was a good listener, but that was about it. I went to about 5 sessions without any actionable insight. Danilo is also very unorganized which was a clear sign I needed to establish therapy elsewhere. During my first visit, I arrived 20 minutes early to fill out paperwork that I had forgotten to print. I sat there for 10 mins after my appt time started (30mins collectively). Danilo came out and let me know there was a buzzer that let him know if there were patients in the waiting room. This was obviously unknown to me. We spent about another 20mins filling paperwork, etc. After my 5th session, Danilo mentioned he wanted to schedule me on 5/1 with reoccurring sessions on each Tuesday of every other week following the 5/1 date. After about 4 days Danilo called to inform me he offered that same time to another patient of his, and let me know we had to move. I tried to coordinate. Finally 5/1 came around and Danilo mentioned he did not have me down. Danilo lacks organization.

I have been seeing Danilo for over six months. He specializes in trauma resolution therapy. He has been invaluable in my pursuit of stability. Because of his extensive experience, we was able to diagnose an underlying issue that I have been suffering from for years. And as a result of medication and therapy, my life has dramatically improved. Furthermore, he has been so patient and so kind at a time I desperately needed it.

I had a great experience with Danilo. He was easy to talk to and seemed to be a genuinely good person. Would definitely recommend.

Has been able to use EMDR to help me overcome a 30 year old condition related to an injury that has caused non-stop stress and discomfort that medications have only covered over. Danilo has helped me tremendously. I initially sought help to deal with a breakdown in my marriage. Working with Danilo on this crisis, however, led to deeper exploration as to my part in creating the marital crisis and the fundamental reasons for my behavior. I have seen a number of therapists over the years but never one who has helped me as much as Mr. Novoa. He is extremely genuine and I immediately felt comfortable talking to him. My past experience with therapists left me feeling "treatment resistant" but I can honestly say that due to Mr. Novoa's treatment skills, for the first time in years I feel a great deal of hope in working through my issues. That is why I decided I had to write something.

My experience with Danillo has been awesome. I've been doing therapy with him since last summer and I have to say that he's a great fit for me as a therapist. His office has a warm, safe, wonderful vibe to it and Danillo is easy to talk to. He's objective and caring. He really cares for his patients and wants them to know that his office is a safe place. I would recommend him to any and everyone. Danillo makes you work hard and that's the best part of the therapy. It's healing.

I didn't meet Danilo I just talked with him on the phone about becoming a client. He was very defensive when I asked about his day job, which has nothing to do with therapy or social work, & when I asked how much his practice focuses on EMDR. But it was still a nice conversation until I asked how many patients he had. He got even more defensive & said Why are you asking that question? I said I was trying to learn more to find the right fit in a therapist. He said to look for someone else!
