Yikes! Just See Someone Else
Care was transferred to this provider after my previous PA left Salem Health. I requested my prescriptions be refilled via My Chart ,as usual, until my new appointment with him. He refused to refill any prescriptions until I came in and saw him. Even though the previous PA okayed them as I saw her right before she left. I told him appointments were out 4 months and my next scheduled was in 3 months. He told me to just be put on the cancellation list and wait until something comes up - in the meantime there would be no prescriptions wrote. I called Salem Health and they graciously got me in next day since I was already out of meds for 2 weeks at this point. When I get to the appointment he asks.. why am I there?! He then proceeds asking the most basic of questions which could have been answered just by looking at my chart and essentially dismisses me. It felt like the most disingenuous money grab of an appointment I have ever been to.

Not friendly at all
I was assigned to Curt Hawkinson after my PA left the clinic. I went in for a new patient appointment. He was not friendly, he did not attempt to get to know me. He did not ask any questions about my health nor did he do a check up. He refused to refill my prescription and then was billed for the worst care if you can call it that.

I have been seeing Curt Hawkinson for years. Some examples of things I like: 1. He follows the same conservative protocol for antibiotics as a very good friend who is a family practitioner (we talked over 30 minutes about antibiotics). 2. He is fantastic with injuries. One example - He diagnosed a knee pain an orthopedist did not. 3. He is great at explaining things. One example - My brother wanted me to talk to him about a heart problem with a genetic link. I spent hours researching it and still did not understand it. He explained it in very easy to understand terms (along with the protocol we would follow). I don't care if doctors are personable; I want technical excellence. But I know people who do so I'll add he is very personable.

He was very rude and not friendly at all. He makes you feel dumb when you ask questions. I tried to express my concern about a medication I cannot take And he wouldn’t listen.

After 10 days with a terrible sinus infection, mucus coming out of my left eye and a SEVERE cough I went to see him because my PCP was out of town. He told me he didn't want to prescribe me antibiotics but he wanted to give me sudafed and a cough syrup. I explained to him I couldn't take any of these 2 as they make my heart race and cause me insomnia. As a person with a heart condition I ended up in urgent care. He shouldn't have a license! My infection was already spreading to my lungs.
