I waited 4 months for an appointment with Barbara Lee. I made 3 appointments in a row so there would be continuity of care. There was a mixup with the scheduling on the initial appointment and she canceled the remaining appointments and refused to see me. This is an awful way to treat someone who is coming to you for mental health treatment, and frankly, this behavior falls below the standard of care for someone in her position.

How to sign in ASL “Should not be a therapist.”
Whoever gave Barbara Lee her degree didn’t know what they were doing. The minute she started to speak I knew it wasn’t going to work but I decided not to trust my gut. She is unsympathetic, un empathetic, ignorant, and someone who clearly does not focus on the bigger picture. I would rather speak to the wall than spend another second speaking with Barbara Lee. “Take some responsibility for yourself” Barbara lee, and do everyone who suffers from a mental illness a favor and retire. (: To answer your question Barbara,“ if I could do anything in the world without thinking about the degree? “ I would fire people like you.

Shockingly incompetent
I was signed in to our online appointment on time. Barbara inexplicably signed in to the appointment 12 minutes late. After 10 minutes of intake questions, she told me some very odd conclusions she'd drawn from the intake questions, like, for example, that I have anger issues because of my birth order. I was not seeing her for anything remotely related to anger and I do not know how a therapist in 2022 is using birth order. When I said "I don't really trust birth order psychology," she ended the call—only 30 minutes into our scheduled appointment, and about 20 minutes into us actually talking, seeing as she signed in late.

Old school philosophies
I only had one appointment and did not go back. My mother had just passed away 2 weeks prior, and she told me multiple times that "it was her time," which I found upsetting. She also told me that "everyone is born into the perfect family, even if that family is abusive and neglectful." I really didn't agree with her philosophy on many things, so it was not a good match. She also spent a portion of my initial appointment asking about my father, how he was doing, and making suggestions about what he should do. I didn't find that productive or useful because 1) I cannot do anything about my father, and 2) I am seeking help for me, not my dad. I also discussed that I had some alcoholics in my family, and she repeatedly told me that alcoholism is a mental disorder. I know that. Not sure why she told me that 3 times and then recommended I read a book about admitting you're an alcoholic. Not sure if she's clueless or she thought I had a secret drinking problem.

I saw Barbara Lee for two years. I stopped going when I realized I was getting nothing but the same inpersonal generic advice week after week. In the end I dreaded having to waste my time seeing her. I saw her for two years and she never correctly diagnosed me with bipolar II. My new primary care doctor did a ten minute exam and correctly told me "undiagnosed bipolar." Barbara lee will brag at each session how its nice that she lives less than a mile from her work while I have to slog all the way to san marcos to see her. Incompetent.

Please don't see this doctor. She spent the entire session asking me the same questions 3-4 times, even though she'd written down the answers the first time. And then after that, she would repeat back the answers to me and they'd be wrong half the time. She also kept harping on the same ideas again and again, some of which were not relevant to my issues. To be completely honest, she's pretty old, and after a while, I started wondering whether she might be starting to get senile. I don't know if PCSD doesn't care or if they're locked into a contract with her, but regardless I would definitely advise not seeing her.

Listened carefully and made good observations and suggestions. Asked appropriate questions to clarify when needed, without dwelling too much on past issues. I felt that she heard and understood why I sought counseling, and her comments were direct and helpful. I felt relief even after my first appointment, and have felt stronger after each session.

I went in for crisis counseling and she was spending all the time trying to get family history. She kept getting confused. When I tried to get her back o track to what I was going through, she said that she needed to do that. She did not give me a crisis number or ask if I was safe. I told her my doctor wanted her to call him she said he could call her. When I pressed she said she would not. appointment are easy to get because I don't think she has anybody that goes back to her ineptitude.
