Insightful, empathetic, wonderful
I have seen Dr. Pettway for some time now for help dealing with a situation of relationship violence (psychological) persisting post-divorce. She has impressed me in many ways. First, I've been struck by her attentiveness and her memory, often bringing up relevant things mentioned weeks or months ago - she's easy to talk to and it feels like she's more than just listening, she gets in my world WITH me. She's also very supportive, but not just supportive - somehow, she manages to be keenly insightful and challenging while never straying from gentle and encouraging. Speaking of balancing acts, I always feel like we are working on what we need to be working on and that I'm empowered to direct that, and yet, it also feels like she's shepherding the process to help move me to a good place that she knows about and maybe I can't see yet. All of this adds up to a safe place with a whole bunch of hope.
