I’m baffled by the negative reviews. After years of seeing therapists that felt like they weren’t listening to me, Ann has been amazing. I’ve been seeing her for 5 years & have never considered looking elsewhere!

she seems to hold some regressive ideas about gender and sexuality. multiple times I explained things to her about trans identities and issues that I felt she shouldn't need explained as someone who specializes in that field and felt looked down at the whole time as if the things I was saying were ridiculous to her. I honestly don't think she is qualified to work with trans people, I have met many cis people who aren't even therapists who I would prefer to discuss trans issues with before her.

Ann Bixler was recommended to me through a list of pro-LGBT counselors because I needed a therapist to talk about being transgender with and beginning my transition (as I've known I've been trans ever since I was a small child with endless examples all throughout my life). Upon hearing this, she immediately started treating me different, she didn't use my preferred name nor pronouns, and she said things like "are you reeeeeally sure? But what if you change your mind? What if your future husband doesn't agree?" These things really made me uncomfortable because despite me telling her I was a pansexual transgender man, she assumed that I would have only a husband (which made me feel like she only saw me as my assigned female at birth gender and heterosexual rather than respecting my identity), and that I would want kids later (when I clearly told her several times that I was disgusted by the thought of having children, and if I really changed my mind, I could just adopt). DO NOT GO TO HER

I am very disappointed in the services my child has received and would not in good conscience recommend Ms Bixler to anyone. She is arrogant, judgmental, biased and not understanding of our situation. We have spent thousands of dollars - no we have WASTED thousands of dollars, and I sincerely believe my child is worse off now than when we started with the sessions. Very poor excuse for a counselor/therapist.

Extremely disappointed in the abilities and lack of professionalism of this so called therapist. In my opinion she has done nothing to help my child and has been extremely difficult to work with. I feel she is not only quite arrogant, but is often in over her head. I do question her professional abilities and would not recommend her services to others. As others have noted she is simply terrible when it comes to helping vulnerable patients.

Ann holds a deeply essentialist and binaric view of sex. Rather than emphasizing the nonbinary nature of sex difference and the fallibility of social categorization, she will need you prove that you are not your assigned sex. She puts you at a default gendered state based on what she perceives your genitals to be, and it is your job to prove that u are "really" a woman, man, or neither.
There is no essence of manhood! We relate imperfectly to and through language. Ann likely wont help you here.

I am a transgender patient that was emotionally abused as a patient of Ann's. Her cruelty and belief that trans patients surgical care should not be covered by insurance and that i am crazy for thinking it should. She charged me under the table for letters regarding surgery despite me having medical coverage for such acts. Ann Bixler should not be treating any trans folk and is unsuportive of trans women as real women. Ann doesn't have a PHD and isn't qualified to treat trans people as well.

I have had a few therapist over the years. As a child I was molested and have had a lot of sexual abuse in the course of my life. A couple of years ago I was sexually assaulted at work and was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and PTSD. Ann listened to my concerns about wanting to remain off medication and to do everything to not be hospitalized. She didn't always tell me what I wanted to hear but she did tell me what I needed to hear. She has helped me more than any therapist I have had.

Suggested to me on my first appointment for gender dysphoria that anxious people often want to transition as a "quick fix." This is a problematic thing to say to a transgender person. It is a thought process that could lead to denial and ruin a life.
Do not go to her for gender dysphoria. She should not be listed on the grpride site nor should she have "transgender" listed in her specialties.

Ann incorrectly cites the WPATH standards of care, stating that transgender patients must wait 12 months after therapy to start HRT. She stated this as if it was a worldwide requirement that I wouldn't be able to get around aside from rare exceptions. This is patently false and would have been more damaging had I not been educated on these issues. I feel bad for any transgender patients that go to her and end up thinking they must wait a year to be happy.

I was referred to Ann Bixler's practice and am very happy to choose her as a provider. Ann is an excellent communicator that takes her patient's concerns seriously and has made a lot of effort to keep me informed in regards to issues like insurance coverage and working with my primary care physician. I've found her to be practical, trustworthy and knowledgeable during my time working with her and would highly recommend her services.

As a parent of a child who was referred to Ann, I have continued to be disappointed in her abilities and services as a counselor. My concerns relate to a combination of her clinical abilities and her overall attitude and personality. I would not recommend her services and am in the process of switching my child's care to another clinical professional. Very disappointed overall. Communication with Ann has remained a challenge, and I question whether she is truly dedicated to her patients.
