Judgmental and unprofessional
Nurse Angela recently cared for a family member of mine. She was extremely rude and judgmental. She made multiple suggestions that my family member was using enhancement steroids. These accusations can affect a persons career. As a nurse practitioner myself, we are trained to treat and educate our patients, not to pass judgement. In addition, she needs to be more sensitive to those patients who have a general fear of the healthcare system. Taking the time to understand your patients fears can help increase compliance and improve patient outcomes. Sometimes patients do not seek care because of past experiences they or other family members have encountered. It is the job of the nurse to help the patient overcome those fears by providing a safe, nonjudgmental environment. Furthermore, while we may have earned a doctorate degree, advertising ourselves as “Dr.” can be misleading to patients, especially those without a medical background.
