Amy Hird, PA-C

I have had white coat syndrome for my entire life and had put off seeing a doctor for a number of years. Once I accepted I had to go to the doctor regularly, I luckily was given Amy Hird for my first appointment. I knew from the first visit that she would be my physician going forward. I admitted my anxiety right off the bat and she takes that in to account with every visit and every online discussion. She is very approachable and eases in to the visit, never making you feel rushed or a bother. Also, Amy is not one to overprescribe medication. For ongoing/daily medication, she tends to start with lower doses if needed, and then works with the patient to adjust. I still do not enjoy going to the doctor, but knowing it is Amy, reduces my anxiety and keeps me returning as needed.

Amy has been my PCP since 2000. She has been my doctor during pregnancy and normal health conditions and since I developed severe neuromusuclar/autoimmune disease since 2010. After seeing countless specialists and heads of department at UNC and Duke for my illness- geneticist, allergist, GI, endocrine, cardiology, neurology, etc. she is, in my opinion, one of the smartest doctors I've ever encountered. I'm pretty sure that she reads medical studies for fun. In addition to being very knowldgeable (& yet also willing to acknowledge when she doesn't know- which is the hallmark of a good doctor) she is eminently kind and takes time to understand and care about her patients. She now sees me, my husband and our 2 children, and I'm confident in the care and recommendations she makes.
