Telehealth
I'm a trans woman going through my transition and was happy to have found a therapist that claims to be focused on the trans community and also took my insurance. Therapy can be expensive out of pocket so it's certainly a plus to find a therapist willing to bill insurance that also specializes in your community. Unfortunately my experience with Alyssa Probert was thoroughly unpleasant. Sessions with her consisted mostly of leading questions and her getting angry when you didn't give her the answers she wanted. She basically follows a script and gets frustrated if you don't answer in a way that allows the script to progress. Sessions felt more like class lectures than therapy, worse she was not open to input or criticism of any kind. It's stated a sign of a bad therapist is one that talks more than the client, well our sessions were 5% me talking and 95% her lecturing. It was seriously like I was back in high school. Except the teacher is burned out with a bad attitude. Go elsewhere.

I’ve improved the most with her
I’ve been a patient of Alyssa’s for more than a year to treat CPTSD; through my choice to initiate family estrangement, the processing of my childhood trauma, & the deconstructing of unhealthy habits/thought patterns so that better ones may replace them. I feel grounded and validated, & more myself. I’m seeing measurable improvement in my mental health because of her help, technique, & treatment. At the time that I post this, there is a review where the reviewer is not a patient of Alyssa, but is the FAMILY of the patient…& criticize that bc they didn’t feel listened/related to that calls her specialties into question. If the reviewer was indeed in family therapy with Alyssa the reviewer themself would be a patient, but it is clear they are “family of patient” - not her patient, therefore, not going to be provided a specific therapy method as a non-patient. I can’t help but wonder what “false” dx’s and “negative outcomes” the review’s upset for at someone who isn’t their therapist.

Alyssa lists a few specialties on her website, but she's not professional enough to refer patients whose issues fall outside her areas of focus to someone better qualified. Instead, she'll attempt to treat conditions she's underqualified and inexperienced with treating, resulting in false diagnoses and negative outcomes. She also seems to ask leading questions and overshares personal details. Family therapy is supposedly one of her areas of focus, but in our experience, she does not listen to or relate well to the families of her patients.

She always ended 15 minutes early, and one day, she discharged me from her services without warning. 6 months of seeing her and she waited 13 days in between our appointments to discharge me. No call, no warning, all they gave me was a list of therapists and a good luck. I find that unprofessional, and if it were up to me, I'd say that is unbecoming of a therapist too.
