Dr. Ying Chen, DO

He was very pleasant. He entered the room and greeted us with a smile! We answered his questions and he even had a quick test done before our visit started. We had more tests scheduled at Mt .Carmel East so he could thoroughly see what was causing the problem. We would recommend him to anyone!!!

Pleasant, easy to communicate with. My first impression: knowledgeable, listens to you, and wants to help. In summary, I am pleased with my 1st visit.

Staff was prompt and professional. Dr. Chen was patient and helpful and made my first visit comfortable and productive.

I felt like nothing I said was believed, and I felt like I was not being listened to. I'm an educated person holding a doctoral level professional degree but I've never felt so talked down to as I did in that visit.

Dr. Chen is not only extremely knowledgeable and highly skilled but also a clear passionate caring Dr. who listens to his patients symptoms and concerns with a keen ear! I am an R.N. and A m very impressed with his knowledge and ability to know that a patient KNOWS their body and he realizes that which many Drs do not! I would recommend Dr. Chen for my own family members

Dr Chen is such a caring, honest, knowledgeable Dr. He takes his time, explains everything, and answers any questions, and is so pleasant. He did a previous surgery on my neck and I’ve had no problems at all. I would recommend Dr Chen to anyone.

The care of the staff from the moment I walked in the door. It was my initial visit and I was very pleased with Dr Chen. He listened to my concerns about the problems I was having and talked about some solutions for them. He was a very caring person. Definitely someone I would recommend to someone else.

He listened to my concerns then explained his step by step plan to achieve our desired results. He fixed a serious cervical condition I had nine years ago, so I knew I wanted to go back to him again.

I would never recommend this Doctor.I have more pain and discomfort since my surgery a year ago. After seeing him he recommended that I should have surgery on three of my discs and he fused four. I have difficulties bending and lifting my legs. I have trouble getting dressed and getting in the car. Therapy has helped but can only do so much. Though I had pain and discomfort before surgery my quality of life has been forever changed. I have not seen him since and was told by staff he was no longer practicing and to find a new Doctor. No referral or recommendation to another doctor was made. I recently had to contact his office for records. I was told he was practicing again but not performing surgeries.

Dr Chen shows respect and a caring attitude. He was thorough and did not hurry me. Did my neck surgery well and I could feel confidence in him and his knowledge.

Dr. Chen and his staff told me more about my condition than the other surgeon I saw, and his surgical approaches are as conservative as possible. I received a recommendation from a friend who had cervical fusion with Dr. Chen and that friend is doing very well after surgery and had a positive experience. Dr. Chen will be my surgeon when my time comes.

My visit was great. Dr. Chen is very kind and knew how to answer all my questions. I feel confident about my upcoming surgery.

Informative first visit.

I drove 2 1/2 hours for my appointment to see Dr. Chen. I watched an hour long webinar he did on social media twice. I researched his many fine reviews online. I knew I wanted Dr. Chen for my surgeon long before I met him. I found him very warm and engaging. I feel he quickly understood where I was coming from. I will always remember the day of surgery, he asked if I had any questions. I jovially asked him if he got a good night's sleep last night. He raised his hands and triumph and declared, "I did, I don't party like I used to." It has been 17 days since my surgery and I am way beyond any preconceived notions I had of recovery. There are no words how grateful I will always be to Dr. Chen, his staff, and New Albany Surgical Center.

This Dr was very rude. He chose to go on a colleague in office within same specialty instead of forming his own. He did not review new diagnostics, he did not EVEN exam me but only talked. This was 6-7 minutes for a large co-pay and I received two other options other places that were very different from here and addressed my pain. He also put down and demeaned NOT ONE BUT TWO FELLOW colleagues at O.N whom I have a great deal of respect for and had seen me a few times AND performed several diagnostics and said, but they are NOT SPINE SPECIALISTS are they when I referred to the work they had done narrowing it down from shoulder, wrist and neck. I am extremely disappointed and displeased and walked out saying to my spouse I’d never again see him!

He was very frank about my condition and what he could do for me, I appreciate that. My planned surgery is August 1.

Felt rushed & like doctor really didn’t want to take any time to explain anything or answer questions. Had asked to be seen for my neck and lumbar areas when I made appointment for this third opinion. Chose this doctor based on my family doctor recommendation since he has a lot of work experience with minimally invasive procedures. But when I arrived, they said I was only set up for my low back. Told the doctor I would like someone to actually take the time to explain what was going on in the MRIs - not just that I needed these two very major surgeries (fusion & laminectomy of 4 regions). Didn’t get that. Doctor did not seem interested in looking at my current MRIs much because they were done in Nov 2021 and I saw him June 2022 - said they don’t like to look at ones past 6 months old (mine were one month past that) so ordered another lumbar mri and said to come back after I got that. I had to pay out of pocket to see him for this consultation and feel it was not worth the expense.

Dr Chen has been an awesome doctor, he found the issue with my sacroiliac joint that three other surgeons over the past 8 years couldn't figure it out. My thanks go out to Dr. Chen and all his staff, Kirsten and Riley you guys are awesome too, keep up the excellent care you give. Strongly recommend anyone with back issues that other doctors aren't getting you answers to, go see Dr. Chen.

Everyone that works there is very professional and informative. This office runs so efficiently. Very compassionate and caring employees.
