Avoid Dr. Yen Tu – Houston Methodist ER
I came to the ER in unbearable pain from a kidney stone. Dr. Yen Tu was cold, dismissive, and showed no sense of urgency. I waited hours before receiving any relief, and when I had a severe reaction, I was left itching and suffering while begging for help. It took nearly another hour to receive something that should’ve been administered immediately.Later, I discovered Dr. Tu ordered drug test without telling me — and did so after giving me medication that would obviously appear on the results. That lack of consent and transparency was a serious breach of trust and ethics. After my experience, I looked him up and found many other patients reporting the same arrogant, careless treatment. There is even a current lawsuit from another patient accusing him of refusing care and violating their rights. If you need emergency care, protect yourself and ask for another doctor. No patient deserves to be treated like this.

When Pain Meets Arrogance: A Warning About Dr. Tu
I went to the Houston Methodist ER in severe pain from a kidney stone — a medical emergency that anyone with basic training knows is debilitating. Instead of receiving the urgent care and compassion I so badly needed, I was met with cold indifference and arrogance from Dr. Yen Tu.Dr. Tu barely acknowledged my condition. He seemed more interested in asserting authority than offering help. I waited hours in agony before receiving anything for pain. Then, after having a severe reaction to one of the medications, I was left itching uncontrollably, literally tearing at my skin, for another hour before he ordered the nurse to give me an over counter allergy pill. This wasn’t just poor treatment — it was cruel. No one should be treated this way in a hospital — especially not by someone entrusted with the responsibility of emergency care. Houston Methodist should seriously reconsider who they allow to represent their standard of care.

Unprofessional, arrogant
Disclosure: I am a healthcare professional myself. Did not pay attention to anything I explained regarding the reason for my visit. Treatment plan was unacceptable and absolutely unrelated to my symptoms. One of the worst experiences I ever had as a patient. Stay away!

Understanding Balance - FAIL
Dr. Tu was very dismissive, arrogant, and condescending when he spoke to us and attempted to treat my daughters needs. He continued to interrupt making the statement “I’m here to fight lives, this is not life or death” meaning, my daughter wasn’t going to die (fortunately) and therefore her needs were interfering with his, what seemed to be passion. Which I can respect. However, you’re an ER physician and the role is not just life or death. My daughter had severe kidney pain and there is clearly an issue. He basically said I don’t know, you need a urologist (I don’t disagree) and was trying to essentially kick us out but we are here because she has not slept for 2 days and while in continuous pain, going to the restroom non-stop and we need some help. He just continued to say “I can’t help you. I don’t know.” Again, I can respect this, but maybe you should stick with an area that treats the life and death situations. The rest of human medical needs clearly has no respect with you.

Good experience
Went to Methodist free standing ER after experiencing unusual weakness in arms and legs. Dr. Tu explained results of tests and answered my questions patiently. Gave me instructions for follow up care. Good ER experience.

Horrible provider.
Went to ER downtown after experiencing continued abdominal pain. I have a history of poly aneurysms. He was very dismissing and condescending. He basically laughed when I requested a CT of my abdominal area where I had 8 aneurysms in the past treated by Methodist. I left the ER and followed up with my PCP who immediately sent me to the ER at Methodist in Clear Lake where it was discovered that I had developed another aneurysm in my liver. He needs to leave medicine if he no longer has the ability to do proper assessment of patients. Very poor diagnostic care.

Arrogant, superficial, conceded, and crude.
I visited Methodist hospital on Nov 24, 2022, and when I explained to Yen-Te Christian Tu my symptoms, he dismissed every one of them. As I explained to him my symptoms and pain, he would interrupt me and tell me that he sometimes have the pains, and that it was nothing, but that he would run some tests to make sure that I didn't have any type of cancer. Our interaction was about 5 minutes. After 30 minutes after the scan was taken, the male nurse came in and said that my tests were clear and I was practically thrown out of the ER. I read Dr. Tu's report and under no circumstances was I "Progression: Waxing and waning" (according to his findings under abdominal pain). My mental status was not an issue. It was my pain. I would never have gone to the emergency if I didn't need to. I assumed that it was the stress that was causing my stomach pain. This doctor needs to resign from medicine.
