Felt pushed into unnecessary cervical exam
I am sharing this in hopes that other women can avoid an uncomfortable experience like mine. I had my first prenatal visit with Dr Brazerol and something was off. He did the ultrasound himself, but kept lifting and scooting down the cover, even after I would readjust it. It’s like he wanted to see. This was before a nurse was in the room. He then took a swab with my consent, but when I asked if the cervical exam was necessary (I have never had a provider do one on my initial prenatals), he said with a stern face “I always do one to get a baseline.” I let him do the exam but felt pressured and wish I hadn’t given implied consent. Something just felt very off and I did what I promised myself I’d never do in similar situations and felt disempowered and without the wherewithal to say no. Dr Brazerol did give plenty of time for other questions at the end of the appointment, but I find myself hoping I never have to encounter him again.

Made me feel unsafe and uncomfortable
Worst doctor I’ve ever met. I am writing this to hopefully prevent other women from having the same experience. During my visit he made multiple inappropriate and unprofessional comments. He had no respect for trying to keep my bottom half covered while performing my ultrasound. He pulled the sheet that was covering my pubic area down further than it needed to be multiple times after I kept adjusting it. He offered to do a cervical exam and when I asked him a simple yes or no question about the necessity of the exam at this stage in my pregnancy, he stalled and avoided giving a definitive answer. I asked the same question to the nurse that was present and she gave a clear cut answer that it was not recommended at this stage of pregnancy. When I declined the exam he made yet another inappropriate comment (about the size of his fingers). He was all around unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. I will never be seeing him again.

Saved my life
I didn’t realize how amazing a doctor Dr. Brazerol was until he was on call the night I suffered an abruption. He didn’t dismiss me when I told him the baby was gone, he held my hand when radiology confirmed our loss. He appeared within seconds when I collapsed shortly after, and made the (lifesaving) call to rush me to the OR. He stopped my bleeding and also saved my uterus. He held my hand in the ICU while I was terrified on a ventilator and helped me process the devastating aftermath of our loss and trauma. I should add there was absolutely no fault with OB for my loss. I came to this practice with a high risk history. He’s a great doctor and one you should be grateful to have on your team in a crisis.

I understand some people’s reviews of Dr. Brazerol in that he may not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, I found him to be a wonderful person to be my OBGYN during my most recent miscarriage. He does not mince words; he is blunt and to the point, which is something that I needed. I did not need someone dancing around my loss; I needed someone to tell me the truth and what needed to be done. He made time to see me when I needed it, and I watched him call schedulers and doctors repeatedly until he got me an appointment for surgery the next morning. He may not say much but he cares about his patients. I would absolutely recommend him and I plan to be back to the OBGYN group that he is a part of soon.

I'm considering leaving Penn OBGYN because of two terrible, unprofessional interactions with Dr. Brazerol. He doesn't say much at appointments, makes you feel very uncomfortable, and brushes off any concerns you bring up. I had bleeding during my 17th week of pregnancy. Unfortunately he was the doc on call and was at the ER when I went in. He made a rude comment about how my treatment would have been quicker if I had waited to be seen later in the week in the office. But as someone who has experienced a previous miscarriage, I went in to the ER for reassurance. He refused to do an ultrasound or test me for a yeast infection, which I had symptoms for. He only tested my urine for a UTI, which I had zero symptoms and the test of course was negative. I cannot stress enough how terrible of a doctor he is.

As a doctor, he didn’t speak much. All he said to me was “...and what else?” Over and over. Felt like my prenatal appt was a waste of his time. Will not ever go back to him. Hope he isn’t the doctor at my delivery! He also coughed into his hands and then didn’t wash them. ??
