Dr. Umasankar Kakumanu, MD

Terrible! I was a patient at Mercy Fairfield and Dr. Kakumanu, whom I'd never met, was the physician that signed my release papers. He stood at my hospital room door, barely introduced himself, did not walk in my room, shake my hand, check my heart rate, he did nothing. He did choose to argue with me about giving me a medicine that is in the family of medicines I am allergic to, clearly stated in my chart. This medicine caused me to hallucinate at which point I asked if this medicine is associate with one that my chart clearly say to NOT give me, the answer was yes. Instead of apologizing or owning this mistake by the staff at Mercy, he told me all narcotics are the same and he didn't know why I would react the way I did. That huge mistake has only happened under this doctor at Mercy Fairfield, seems any other hospital can read a chart and avoid the mistake. He was terrible. I wish I could give a 0 because that's the level of his care.
