Bivalacqua, treated me with respect and a true desire for my health. I would trust him with my cancer care. Very friendly and compassionate to his patients.

Cancer treatment
Dr. Bivalacqua is known for having excellent surgical skills. However, he doesn't communicate well. He was arrogant and dismissive and unwilling to answer questions. I felt he was not interested in treating me, although it was one of his specialties. If you don't mind his poor communication skills, he will probably do a good job technically.

My husband had multiple cancers, probably due to full body treatments with radiation as a child. He was diagnosed with a rare cancer affecting both the bladder and intestine. His medical records showed him to be a poor risk for surgery, but he was determined to fight this cancer. Dr Bivalacqua worked with us to cause the surgery to happen. It was a difficult recovery, with multiple setbacks. Decisions made by Dr Bivalaqua and his team (occasionally relayed a little brusquely, but, when trying to save a life with conditions changing by the minute, I would rather his focus be on care of the patient), resulted in my husband and I sharing over 7 more years together before he passed away from other causes. Dr Bivalacqua was caring, supportive and discussed everything with us. Waits in the office did tend to be long. I have found that to be true in all University health settings. I learned to bring something to keep me occupied - and a sweater and snack.

Bivalacqua super negligent. Failed to biopsy enlarged lymph node of my husband and now he is dying. He is obnoxious, heartless, and dismissive and his staff who answered the phone 2 years ago were extremely rude and ignorant. What a mistake to trust this guy.

Dr. Bivilaqua’s treatment of my family member has become notorious in my community. He has sullied the respect once owed to John’s Hopkins Hospital, and our experience there will be remembered as the biggest mistake we ever made. Unfortunately, many friends and acquaintances have been able to concur with similar experiences of their own. If we had only known.... Dr. Bivalaqua’s lack of regard for the “human-ness” of his patients revealed his mockery of the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm. He allowed physical harm because of his complacency in diagnosis, and he inflicted great emotional harm from his dismissive and downright insulting attitude.

Dr Bivalacqua is a great doctor, BUT his administrative staff is dangerous. I don't know why he tolerates their lack of follow-thru - but he does. His administrators don't take or return phone calls. My last 2 operations with Dr B were booked twice for the same operation. Very frustrating. Many more problems have occurred.

I was diagnosed with Stage lV metastasized prostate cancer. Dr. B had his office schedule 4 weeks of radiation treatments. Those results were sent to him but no follow-up with me occurred. Prior to the start of those treatments, I began to bleed. I first attempted to reach him through the "My Chart" portal with no response. I contacted his Assistant and left multiple messages requesting help. No Response. I ended up in the ER, was admitted to the hospital where I spent 5 days & following a blood transfusion, was released. I have never been successful scheduling an appt. with him. His Assistant claims she has left multiple emails for him with no response. Her response to my difficulty is/was "keeping calling". If you are searching for a good Urology doctor that cares about your condition, I would suggest you pass on Dr. Bivalacqua and continue your serach. He will dedicate the least amount of his time for you.

My mother had to have surgery for bladder cancer and I went with her to every appointment. Dr. B explained things very thoroughly in a way that is easy for you to understand/relate to. At first he seemed a little impatient, but spent the time with us that we needed. He is very caring and highly concerned with his patients. My frustration was with some of his staff who I constantly had to call and follow up with often because i didn't get what i needed in a timely manner.
