Horrific, irresponsible doctor
Telehealth
This woman worsened my epilepsy and caused me to develop toxic encephalopathy due to her own ignorance. She prescribed a class 5 medication, and even after having issues with feeling how addictive the drug was, and feeling physically terrible, she upped my dosage. When I went off the medication, this doctor did not know the basic knowledge of how this medication causes a surge in glutamate. This is highly dangerous to an epilepsy patient and resulted in an excitotoxicity. She refused to help me recover and neglected me completely out of her own fear to admit what she had done. Do NOT go to this doctor for epilepsy as she knows so little about the medications and the condition itself!

Best epileptologist
Dr. Ting is incredibly smart, keeps up with relevant studies, and really helps patients navigate what they need to do. In addition, she’s one of the kindest doctors I’ve ever had. She really cares about her patients.

Not a Good Experience - Yours May Be
My appointment went poorly. Dr. Ting had no time for the appointment and was pushing for observation, which made no sense given there was no way to schedule this (extended period of time under observation - not possible for me, as I was already out of in-patient). She was quick to prescribe a new medication as well, which again made no sense (no sense/instructions provided on how to move from one to the other, or anything like this). My impression was Dr. Ting is always in a hurry, probably because of a rush between consults and the lab in an entirely other location. Given a previous experience in adding in a seizure drug to a drug already in use, I would have been more sick on Dr. Ting's watch. I am sure she is an excellent scientist, and in some instances posted it looks as if she has been an exceptionally attentive physician (especially at the University of Maryland), but if you catch her today, with something else on her mind, best of luck.

Wish I could give 100 stars!
She is the best neuro I ever had! She saved me and stopped my uncontrollable seizures when other neuros gave up on me. She takes every seizure seriously. She spends so much time answering every question, and actually genuinely cares about her patients. She’ll email me back immediately about any issue. I recommend her to everyone as the best neurologist in the country.

BEWARE!
My daughter saw Dr. Ting for approximately 4 months starting in 2020, via telehealth, due to the pandemic. In November 2020 she prescribed Pregabalin (Lyrica) for my daughter's epilepsy as other medications for her condition did not work and caused tremendous adverse side effects. Dr. Ting NEVER informed us that Pregabalin was addictive or could cause serious long term effects! She only told us that “it would make her tired.” Pregabalin caused her to feel drunk and her body craved dosages hours before due. My daughter should have been pulled off within 5 days when it was clear it was horrible, but she was on it a total of 21 days. It ruined her quality of life! She now has toxic encephalopathy, has received photobiomodulation treatment, and requested help to find a specialist. Dr. Ting OWES my daughter a video appt so she can understand how this drug as adversely affected her life and caused her to distrust specialists. My daughter needs to address this personally to gain closure,

Disappointing appointment. Physicians appeared unprepared. As patient felt unprepared. This does not appear to be an appropriate match between patient and provider.

I used to see Dr. Ting when she was at the University of MD’s campus. She was beyond excellent. She got my seizures under control when the previous 2 doctors could not. She was ALWAYS attentive to my needs and even would call and check up on me in between my 3-6 month follow ups. I was so hurt when she left. She is an awesome Neurologist and Medstar is lucky to have her. ??

Definitely, would I recommend Dr. Ting. Not only was she caring and supportive, she was informative and helpful with other issues. She even visited me when I was in her hospital for something that had nothing to do with my epilepsy to make sure there would be no connection. Great Doctor!
