I saw this guy for a potential acid reflux issue I was having. For a very extended period, I was experiencing what was best described as uncontrollable need to burp. While I was describing various aspects of some things to him, I made a comment about having celiac disease. I said it without a second thought, as this was something I was told over 10 years prior and had strictly avoided eating gluten ever since. It wasn’t meant to be the focus of anything, but his reaction, which was outright rude, forcefully changed the trajectory of the meeting. He made a face that suggested it couldn’t be possible I had it and that it was absolutely ridiculous I would say I did. He began questing “how I would know that????” But what he failed to ask about was what I was experiencing and going through all those years prior leading up to the medical appointment resulting in the celiac conclusion. In any case, this guy seemingly set out to do what felt like disprove my claim of celiac, rather than address my burping issue. I should say that I fully and utterly respect any effort to investigate potential celiac issues and a correlation to the burping, but that was not what this felt like. In addition to a scheduled endoscopy, he order a large never of other test, several of which focused on the celiac. There was a blood test for gluten, as well as some kind of a gene-related celiac likelihood test. While it wasn’t difficult to perform a little research online to find out that you need to have eaten gluten within 2 months of a blood test for issues to show up, I’ve since had other gastro doctors confirm that this guys wasted a massive amount of time by doing this, not to mention my money. Mind you, I told him point blank that I do not eat gluten and hadn’t for a decade. After the endoscopy, a nurse wheeled me out to the car. I confused about being send home with no info and asked her if there was any issues I need to be aware of, not wanting to go home and eat the wrong things, should I in fact have acid reflux. She responded by telling me “There’s no sign of celiac, you can keep eating gluten!” My girlfriend and I were absolutely taken aback by this. This endoscopy was about a year ago now and I am still incredibly bothered by the experience.

Surely you can find someone else.!
All DR. Hsieh did was sit at the computer re -entering my history all ready in their records. He Had me schedule an appointment for an endoscopy without discussing it with me or telling me why. The clinical notes from my office visit on 12/6/21 with Dr. Matteoni ( his predecessor at GIC) Emphatically state I am at“high risk for complications or mortality.” BHowever, he did order 13 vials of blood work. I called GI Consultants 3 times asking to speak with someone about the procedure to no avail. Each time I was forwarded to scheduling. I finally cancelled the appointment only to be called back by someone who aggressively challenged my decision.

A very long time patient of GIC and Christi Mattio – Jan 29, 2023

Dr. Hsieh was very nice and took the time to go over my multitude chronic health issues. He spent appropriate time with me & listened. I didn't feel rushed. He voluntarily provided me a copy of a gastrology scan which I did not have. He didn't order any tests Like previous reviewer noted and referred me to a gastrology surgeon for follow up. He was humble to admit that a specialists was needed and that's rare. His office sent a referral to the specialists. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. I couldn't have experienced a better visit that was totally productive & enjoyable.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease by a partner in this office that has since left. They told me to come see this provider instead. He was infuriating. He did not read a single thing in my chart, and then ordered a bunch of tests that were already done. When I tried to explain this to him he stated my chart was very full and it would be easier to re-evaluate. Easier for him maybe, but not for me or my insurance!!
