Awful doctor
He doesn't care in the slightest about a patient in PAIN. Even though he is a supposed pain specialist. I recommend you run away rather than see this man. Terrible bedside manner. Thinks he is God.

Did. Furnish left me in severe pain for 3 weeks
After visiting Dr. Furnish for severe pain in the lower back. I was told that I would receive a lumbar steroid injection. I called every week for three weeks while incapacitated with pain. Finally it was determined that he had not even submitted the request to my insurance.Unbelievable.

Dr. Furnish listens carefully to understand a patient's pain issues well and is extremely thorough in explaining the treatment. His demeanor puts me at ease too.

I had total knee replacement surgery (TKR or TKA) roughly three weeks and three days ago. Dr. Furnish was my pain consultant prior to my surgery. My fear when seeing doctors as a whole - in being a chronic pain patient who’s faced much racism - are physicians who refuse to see my successes and trust my end. Dr. Furnish was attentive, patient, caring and careful. I independently walked (??) my first night! I thank Dr. Furnish for respecting me as a human being and not a nationality and/or chart.

Saw Dr Furnish in 2014 he was nice & understood my pain & prescribed different opioids to treat my severe chronic pain cond’s, I then saw him 2 yrs later (late 2017) and he and a Resident went off, telling me I must come off these drugs (after being treated at UCSD for over 10 years, abiding by all rules, etc) they wrote false info in visit report. it was clear they were on a mandate by UCSD mgmt to reduce opioid use among paitients, period. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE IF YOUR IN PAIN!

I visited Dr Furnish for a pre-op consultation. She has Ankylosing Spondylitis and Fibromialgia and was having diverticulitis surgery. Dr Furnish took his time listening, then we discussed pain management during and post-op. While no one wants surgeries, this was the best managed pain that she has ever had. I highly recommend him!

Does not care about people. Refused to help me with my chronic pain due to many automobile and motorcycle accidents and on the job accidents. I've been in pain for over 20 years and he did not care! I cannot take otc meds due to being on a blood thinner (which is very dangerous to mix with otc meds), and he refused to give me the meds that have been proven to help me. I now can hardly even get out of bed and he just doesn't care!

I was lucky enough to find Dr. Furnish in 2015. He is one of the best Dr. 's I have ever had. Thorough, compassionate, knowledgeable in all aspects of health care. He really takes care of me. He, along with Ken make sure I am doing the best I can on the least amount of medication. Always listens, never hurries. UCSD has been fantastic all around.

I have had four abdominal/pelvic surgeries in the past eight years. The pain management by Dr. Furnish was the best I have ever had! He met with me the day before my surgery and checked in on me everyday in the hospital and made sure I was not in pain. I can not say enough good things about this anesthesiologist!

Dr Furnish is a wonderful physician. I have been his patient for over a year. He has established a protocol to not only control my chronic pain but continue to investigate new ways to stop it. It took awhile to establish the relationship with him and he is hard to get appointments with but it well worth it. I am confident in my care and my pain is being controlled. I don't feel like just another faceless patient in this practice.
