Supposedly was overseeing the fellow who did my lumbar puncture, but I never saw Dr. A. I was left in the post-op bay with tachycardia recorded. No doctors came by afterward. The fellow and Dr. A missed a crucial clue on my myelogram the day of the test. I was sent on my way and could tell I had a new leak by the time I was upright and had taken a few steps away from the building. I grew progressively worse that night. By the next day, my vitals had crashed and I was having severe hypotensive episodes. I saw my assigned dr the next day and the transfer of care resulted in my being left shaking in the waiting room for hours before being refused care. I do not know how the Duke CSF leak program got the reputation of being the best. They do not practice what they preach. And I would never trust a Duke doctor after that experience. Their primary flaws are sloppiness and apathy, and because of that, they cause harm.

When I went to visit Dr. Amrhein for an epidural steroid injection I had severe back pain. He was very kind and down to earth as he walked me through what to expect and details on exactly what he was doing. During the procedure he (and his team) continued to engage me and walked me through every step. Afterwards, in the waiting area, he took the time to tell my husband everything that occurred. Another positive is I saw my neurosurgeon that morning and because I am out of town Dr. Amrhein was able to squeeze me in for an appointment the same day so I did not have to travel back and forth. Just 5-stars all around!!
