My brother (Blake) and his son just left Dr. Polascik's office for a 2nd opinion for Prostate surgery. Another Doctor had his surgery quickly scheduled for this upcoming Wednesday, so I am so happy that he went to see Dr. Polaskcik for a 2nd opinion. They were both most impressed with Dr. Polascik's thoroughness and his attention to detail. He took his time and explained everything to them. He was not in any rush!Thank God, he didn't immediately suggest surgery. Dr. Polascik gave my brother options to think about. How many Dr.'s don't automatically recommend surgery??? This was most impressive, and I just had to take the time to share the experience that my brother and his son just had with Dr. Polascik. We need more Doctors like him.... Not just out to do surgery immediately. Thank God for Dr. Polascik. I feel much better having Dr. Polascik working with my brother on this journey. thank you Dr. Polascik. M

He wants to keep his outcomes up working on easy patients.Says he does not have the skill set required to operate on heavier patients.They say it takes twice the prostratectomys to work on bigger bellys evidently he does not have it.

Dr P and his team is always up to date with diagnosis and treatments. Very few urology doctors order prostate MRI even now in 2023 becuz MRI of prostate still is not standard of care (and certainly wasn't at all common before covid!). Many insurance companies don't even pay for prostrate MRI. Doctors are learning when to order prostate MRI and how it can be helping and the prostate MRI that Dr P got helped me. Thank you!

Identified stage 3 cancer that other urologist missed Excellent surgeon

Procedure: On 10/27/2020 I had Prostate Cryoablation at the Duke University Hospital. Dr. Thomas Polascik performed the surgery. Cryosurgery is cutting edge and is not yet the standard of care. Dr. Polascik is on the leading edge of technology and I am please that I could use this procedure and avoid a radical prostatectomy. The entire process for my surgery was superbly managed and performed. Prep for Surgery: Sandra and Mary Jane worked together as a team to get me ready for surgery. They were very precise, professional and proficient. I felt very comfortable being in their care and I was very relaxed going into surgery. Post op recovery team: Jessica was the RN that cared for me in the Recovery Room (PACU). Jessica did an excellent job explaining all the information on the After-Surgery Summary paperwork given to me and my care giver. Post-Surgery debrief: Dr. Polascik confirmed that the surgery went well. He gave me instructions on exercises to avoid side effects.

Feel very lucky that my PCP recommended Dr Polascik to me. I feel he and his team saved my life and I'm grateful. Urologists in VA that I had seen who diagnosed bladder cancer told me they could not treat me because medicine was not available and I could basically do nothing. They closed their practice so I knew it was time to see someone else. Best decision I ever made. I only wish I had come to Duke earlier. Full confidence in Dr Polascik's care decisions.

I was extremely fortunate to wind up in Dr. Polascik's care. Two urologists, using conventional detection techniques, could not find evidence of cancer. My second urologist actually referred me to Dr. Polascik, stating that he was conducting research at Duke Cancer Center for early detection of prostate cancer. Dr. Polascik's technique not only detected the cancer, but he was able to pinpoint sites to obtain hot biopsies which opened the door for insurance to cover surgery. I'm cured.
